There's also a version that calculates and sends the total message length here - http://home.seventy7.com/misc/rangeMsg.hh. (An option on the front end is checked to obtain this functionality.) This thread on clc++m, http://preview.tinyurl.com/218cnh, convinced me of the need to support total message lengths. The @OUT used above as input to the C++ Middleware Writer indicates you only want a Send function--by default both a Send and Receive function are generated. I believe sub_range supports operator << but not operator >>. So the @OUT option is necessary when using sub_range. It should only work for the main boost build process and for user builds that explicitly use a library's build/Jamfile.v2 and bjam. Also, there's a warning emitted that explains what's happening. [xpressive] semantic actions: is ref() necessary

Hi Eric, My semantic actions might look like +(name[push_back(ref(causeNames),as<std::string>(_) )]); My first question here is whether ref() is really necessary? In your example from the documentation, I can better understand it: [ ref(result)[s1] = as<int>(s2) ]; because you apply the [] operator to the result. But otherwise, is there any time you not want a reference stored? In my case above, couldn't the destructor of push_back() take a T& argumentment and construct a lazy reference from that? I also have another question: is it really necessary to write the as<std::string>(_) part of the semantic action? Can this type not be deduced from the template argument to push_back()? In my case it would simply be Container::value_type. If so, we would end up with the really slick looking +(name[push_back(causeNames)]); best regards -Thorsten

Hi to all, The Flyweight library submitted by Joaquín M. López Muñoz has been *accepted* into Boost. Thanks to all reviewers and all who contributed to the library before the review. We've received 10 reviews (Alberto Ganesh Barbati, David Sankel, John Reid, John Torjo, Kevin Scopp, Marcus Lindblom, Markus Werle, Matias Capeletto, Neil Hunt, Tim Blechmann), and all except Alberto's one were positive. Please, if I've missed a review, let me know. Joaquín agreed to address Alberto's comments (either with keyed_flyweight or by another method) and I like to encourage Joaquín and Alberto and the rest of the Boost community to improve the flyweight library to optimize and adapt it for situations like Alberto has described. I'm pretty sure that we'll reach an agreement. I'll have some time during the weekend to read all the reviews and write an small summary of requested changes, ideas, complaints, etc... to summarize the review process. The cons sequence will behave exactly as a list. Maybe these functions should be called as_random_access_sequence, as_bidirectional_sequence etc? Possibly that would be less misleading? Hi John, Just a small question - in 2005 we used logging v1, but we couldnt get it to play along with dlls: logging was defined in one dll (called 'log.dll' - if I remember correctly) , and various parts of the system in other dlls, but we could use log.dll reliably from the other dlls and had to revert to have a log inside each dll ... has this been addressed? Hi John, Just a small question - in 2005 we used logging v1, but we couldnt get it to play along with dlls: logging was defined in one dll (called 'log.dll' - if I remember correctly) , and various parts of the system in other dlls, but we could use log.dll reliably from the other dlls and had to revert to have a log inside each dll ... has this been addressed? Interest in a Memcache C++ Client?

Hi Everyone, In the past few months I've not been able to contribute to the C++ Networking Client Library because I myself was working on a Memcache Client library for C++ in Friendster. Now that the implementation has been open sourced under the Boost Software License (and is available from http://sourceforge.net/projects/memcachepp/) I'd like to ask if there is interest in a special purpose networking client library using the Boost.Asio, Boost.Serialization, Boost.Spirit, and Boost.Regex libraries? I would also like to know if there is interest in evaluating the approaches used to develop a very extensible interface using directives and concepts -- maybe have a discussion on how the approaches used in the library implementation can be generalized or turned into a library in itself. [serialization] Exception basic_string::resize - possible bug in string archiving?

I hate to post this as it's late and I can't help thinking I'm missing something obvious, but here goes. Hi, I've been building the documentation and comparing with the files that are checked in. The following files seem to be missing from subversion: libs/bimap/doc/html/boost_bimap/the_tutorial/additional_information.html libs/math/doc/sf_and_dist/html/math_toolkit/main_overview/compilers_overview.html And the following files might be obsolete now (i.e. they're in subversion but are not generated): libs/fusion/doc/html/fusion/extension/macros.html libs/type_traits/doc/html/boost_typetraits/category/background.html libs/bimap/doc/html/boost_bimap/the_tutorial/hooking_information.html Similarly, the following fowarding html files are for html documents that aren't generated, so they should probably be removed. doc/html/boost_typetraits.html doc/html/functionN.html doc/html/boost_typetraits/background.html doc/html/boost_math.html Daniel

I've spent a tiny amount of time looking over the flyweight documentation and some code and I have a couple minor observations along with a really dumb question. a) when I see boost::flyweight::flyweights it confuses me. I suppose its no big deal. b) I'm curious about the serialization implementation. Why didn't you choose just to serialize the factory?
