[1.35.0] Release candidate process

There is a seemingly endless set of improvements to *could* be made to 1.35.0. But I think that it is time to try to identify any showstoppers, fix those, and defer everything else to the next release. Because we now build release branch snapshots daily, the process of issuing release candidates is a bit different than in the past. The daily release branch snapshots are in effect the release candidates. So I guess the only thing the release manager has to do is create an RC_whatever tag, rename the current files on the ftp site, and post an announcement. Unless anyone feels a different procedure should be used, I'll go ahead and do that in the next couple of days. Is more/getting_started.rst obsolete?

I'm putting some final touches on the docs and web site for release and I was rebuilding the getting started docs. But I'm confused... There's a more/getting_started.rst which one would think corresponds to more/getting_started.html. But currently more/getting_started.html is a redirect to more/getting_started/index.html, and rebuilding from the more/getting_started.rst obliterates the redirect with a bunch of content. [function] boost::function<>::swap() can throw

I was quite surprised to realize that boost::function<>::swap can throw in case a memory allocation fails. Is this intentional or a known issue? The TR1 function<>::swap is specified not to throw. thanks, -- Arvid Norberg

What happened to boost-root/index.htm?

boost-root/index.htm has been deleted and boost-root/readme.html has been added. Is the intent that readme.html becomes the new home page? That would be a breaking change for the many user's who have links on their own pages to Boost's index.htm in their local installation of Boost. "index.htm" was an unfortunate choice of name, so I think the current reorganization would be a good time to change the home page to "index.html". But we will still need "index.htm" to avoid breaking user links (not to mention our own links!), although it can just redirect to "index.html". We could also have a "readme.html" that redirects to "index.html", although it seem unnecessary to me. --Beman

[Tokenizer] No way to produce exactly one empty token

Is there any input to boost::tokenizer that will produce exactly one empty token? Consider the following code: typedef boost::char_separator<char> Separator; typedef boost::tokenizer<Separator> Tokenizer; Separator sep("|" , "", keep_empty_tokens); Tokenizer tokenizer1("", sep); Tokenizer tokenizer2("|", sep); The first case, where an empty string is tokenized, produces no tokens. The second case, where a string containing just a separator character is split, produces two empty tokens. It seems odd to me that there’s no input that will produce just one empty token. Sorry about the poor title, it is difficult for me to explain the problem without code so here is a really simple example of what i'm trying to achieve but fails to compile with Boost.Bind: #include <boost/bind.hpp> struct FunFn { typedef void result_type; template < typename Fun > void operator()(Fun fn) const { fn(); } } const Fn; void g() { std::cout << "hello\n"; } int main() { using namespace boost; bind(Fn, bind(Fn, bind(Fn, bind(Fn, ... bind(Fn, g))(); } I get type deduction errors, however i have found workaround using Boost.Function for the time being: #include <boost/function.hpp> ... boost::function< void () > fnN = bind(Fn, g), fnN-1 = bind(Fn, fnN), ..., fn1 = bind(Fn, fn2), fn = bind(Fn, fn1); bind(Fn, fn)();
