VC6 might be too early a compiler to support some of the stuff regex uses (i.e. its non-compliant for some template C++ features)....Does it work with a later compiler?? Trouble using the boost::regex library on the Windows Mobile 5.0 SDK

Hello, This is my first time posting to the boost mailing list. I certainly apologize if I am going about posting my question to the wrong way. I was just wondering if anyone has experiencing using boost with the Windows Mobile 5.0 SDK (with Visual Studio 2005). I am having some trouble getting the most basic setup to build correctly. I am simply trying to build / deploy to the WM5.0 emulator at this point. Steps that I went through: 1. Create a new "Win32 Smart Device" project for the Windows Mobile 5.0 SDK, with all default settings 2. Copy the code from the regex overview page: http://www.boost.org/libs/regex/doc/introduction.html into the main .cpp file. 3. Change all std::string to std::wstring, change all boost::regex to boost::wregex, and all "literal strings" to L"literal strings". 4. Set the "include" and "library" directories to point to the boost files 5. Initial build failed because "#error unknown CE Compiler" was tripped on line 133 of visualc.hpp. 6. I commented out the #error statement, and added the line "#define BOOST_COMPILER_VERSION 8.0" - Was this a mistake? 7. Next build, I got a fatal error: <locale>, which is #included in regex_workaround.hpp could not be found. 8. I "fixed" this by defining BOOST_NO_STD_LOCALE - because I noticed that this would cause the compiler to skip over the #include statement - Was this a mistake? 9. Now when I build I get 3 warnings on lines 52,53, and 54 of interlocked.hpp that _InterlockedIncrement, _IterlockedDecrement, and _InterlockedCompareExchange are not available as intrinsic functions. 10. I also get a number of unusual link errors: - an "unresolved external" link error for "_InterlockedDecrement" - doesn't make sense since InterlockedDecrement is a valid WinCE 5.0 function (and the correct headers and libraries are included in the build) - an "unresolved external" link error for "basic_regex< wchar_t, ." - a "machine type 'X86' conflicts with target machine type 'THUMB'" link error I am able to get around the first error by defining BOOST_USE_WINDOWS_H because I noticed that this would cause the compiler to use a different chunk of code (is this a mistake?). However, I am not certain what to do about the unresolved boost_regex, and target machine conflict errors. I believe both conflicts exist because I built the boost libraries for X86 deployment, and they do not link correctly for Win CE deployment. I built the libraries using bjam, according to this page: http://www.boost.org/more/getting_started.html. Frankly, I don't know how to build the libraries in such a way that they can target Win CE (assuming this is the issue). Alternatively, does anybody know if it is possible the use boost::regex by simply including the .h / .cpp files in the project itself, and building them along with the rest of the project? It is not clear to me if this is even possible. However, I would actually prefer this method. NOTE: Using these exact same steps I was able to build the project as a standard Win32 (that is, Non-Win CE) console project, and it ran correctly. This is true both with BOOST_NO_STD_LOCALE defined, and without it. I would appreciate any help or insight that you could provide. Thanks, Matt

lazy question: any good way to convert enums to human readable strings?

I have done very little searching, but it seemed worth just asking... sorry if this is newsgroup pollution: Does anyone have a favored way to convert large enums into stings suitable for printing? For example, we have an enum declared: enum eFurniture { eOT_chair = 1, eOT_stool =2, eOT_sofa =3, ... eOT_lounger = 1000, }; It would be really nice if there were a programmatic way to do something like: STRINGED_ENUM(eFurniture) E_STRING(eOT_chair, 1) E_STRING(eOT_stool, 2) E_STRING(eOT_sofa, 3) ... Questions regarding lambda expressions

Hello, I am confused about why two certain lamba expressions work (on VC8) while two others do not. I do not profess to be any sort of expert in boost lambda expressions. This code is being executed in a function which is a friend of a template "takostack". Basically, this function deals with a member "contents_" that is a scoped_array of scoped_ptrs. msvc 8.0 express + date_time + greg_month + static .libs issue

Hi I have a small project with boost 1.33 + libtorrent 0.10 + wxwidgets 2.7.0 + msvc 8.0 (2005) express. in project config -> linker -> input -> add. dep. I have (among other libs): libboost_filesystem-vc80-mt-gd.lib libboost_thread-vc80-mt-gd.lib libboost_date_time-vc80-mt-gd.lib and linker says: tracker_manager.obj : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol "__declspec(dllimport) public: __thiscall boost::gregorian::greg_month::greg_month(unsigned short)" (__imp_??0greg_month@gregorian@boost@@QAE@G@Z) web_peer_connection.obj : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol "__declspec(dllimport) public: __thiscall boost::gregorian::greg_month::greg_month(unsigned short)" (__imp_??0greg_month@gregorian@boost@@QAE@G@Z) storage.obj : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol "__declspec(dllimport) public: __thiscall boost::gregorian::greg_month::greg_month(unsigned short)" (__imp_??0greg_month@gregorian@boost@@QAE@G@Z) Now, when I change libboost_date_time-vc80-mt-gd.lib to boost_date_time-vc80-mt-gd.lib then it links fine and runs fine, excpet that .exe it needs boost_date_time-vc80-mt-gd-1_33_1.dll in a running directory. [boost::serialization] Newbie question on de-serializing a collection without reading into an STL

Apologies for the basic nature of this question . but I've scoured the documentation for the Boost Serialization library without any hint of how to solve this. I want to use the Boost Serialization library to allow the saving and loading of a collection of database rows. This will use XML as the file format. All of the examples in the documentation assume that there is a "root" object saved, and in the case of a collection on objects, just save and load the collection itself: void save_mib(const vector<Row>& mib, const string& filename) { ofstream ofs(filename.c_str()); boost::archive::xml_oarchive oa(ofs); oa << BOOST_SERIALIZATION_NVP(mib); } void load_mib(vector<Row>& mib, const string& filename) { ifstream ifs(filename.c_str()); boost::archive::xml_iarchive ia(ifs); ia >> BOOST_SERIALIZATION_NVP(mib); } However, this will be a LARGE collection of rows, and I don't want to read them all in at once. Instead, I want to read them in, one at a time and process piecemeal. However, I can't work out from the documentation how to test that there is another row left to read . compilation performance of lambda when using /clr (VC8)

Hi, I noticed that the compilation performance on my old development machine increased dramatically when using the /clr option in VC8 (Visual Studio 2005) compared to not using any clr/managed code whatsoever. (4 seconds -> 1.5 minutes) Is there a workaround for this? Has this been discussed before? Thanks, Matt
