In this text: NOTE: The Boost Graph Library supports two interchangeable methods for specifying interior properties: bundled properties and property lists. The former is easier to use and requires less effort, whereas the latter is compatible with older, broken compilers and is backward-compatible with Boost versions prior to 1.32.0. No << or & operator defined (a different problem?)

I'm getting substantially the same error as before: c:\D2\API\NewClient\EnhancedMessageHandler.h(371) : error C2679: binary '&' : no operator found which takes a right-hand operand of type 'int' (or there is no acceptable conversion) Or, alternatively binary '<<' when using the << operator, in the code: template<class Archive > static void save(Archive & ar, const IplJrsMediaTimePoint& g, const unsigned int version) { ar << ( const int )(g.GetYear()); } - But also when I use static_cast or for type uint32 when I don't have a cast. Any suggestions very gratefully received. Thanks for your reply. I included the void_cast_register call because the base class is not being serialised by the derived class nor is the derived class being serialised and hence my understanding was that it was needed in this special case. It works with the paramaters to void_cast_register swapped. The include file void_cast.hpp does show the parameters as you state, however the documentation and examples have them in the order <base, derived> (special.html). Can I suggest that this is updated please? It should happen automatically as part of the "base_object" wrappers call. Also it is used void_cast_register<Derived, Base> which is the opposite you've of what you've done below. So I would remove it from your example. The export should make up for this. There are number of code paths related to borland 5.64 and borland 5.51. I don't know anything about borland 6. void_cast/export/template instantiation are areas which many compilers have exhibited unexpected behavior. So its quite possible that the code as is can't accomodate BC 6. As far as I know - we've never seen borland 6 or tested it. So if you want to use any part of boost with a new compiler whose ancestor has a history of special requirements, you should be prepared to run the test suite for that compiler. BOOST_HAS_HASH not defined in config\stdlib\dinkumware.hpp?

Was trying to use boost::serialize on a stdext::hash_map (with VC++ 8) and noticed that BOOST_HAS_HASH is not defined in the standard library configuration header for dinkumware stl. Is this a bug in boost? In the meantime I'll just define it in my makefile. Erik Charlebois

Building Boost on Mac OS X

I'm trying to build boost (boost_1_31_0) as a dependency for monotone <http://venge.net/monotone/> on Mac OS X 10.4 (tiger). I'm doing this using gcc-3.3 because monotone doesn't work properly with gcc 4. Following the instructions in monotone for how to build boost, it tells me to do this: $BJAM "-sBUILD=release <threading>single <optimization>speed <runtime- link>static" This failed on a few of the targets, with an error that crt0.o was not found. This is probably because static linking of binaries is not supported on Mac OS X: http://developer.apple.com/qa/qa2001/qa1118.html So I tried removing the <runtime-link>static option, but then I started getting errors about not being able to find certain symbols. For some projects, it was complaining about not being able to find _main. It also complained about not being able to find __Z20init_unit_test_suiteiPPc in libboost_unit_test_framework, and there may have been other errors too. Here's the error output for some of these: gcc-Link-action bin/boost/libs/thread/build/libboost_thread.dylib/gcc/ release/shared-linkable-true/libboost_thread-gcc-1_31.dylib c++: unrecognized option `-shared' ld: Undefined symbols: _main gcc-Link-action bin/boost/libs/test/build/ libboost_unit_test_framework.dylib/gcc/release/shared-linkable-true/ libboost_unit_test_framework-gcc-1_31.dylib c++: unrecognized option `-shared' ld: Undefined symbols: __Z20init_unit_test_suiteiPPc So, I'm wondering what I need to do to get boost to build on darwin. Boost.mpl metafunction with integral value problem

Hi, I've been trying boost::mpl for my current project and hit a problem. Sorry if it is an already known issue. So if we have our own metafucntion: template< typename T, typename Value > func : mpl::void_ {}; it works fine: typedef mpl::find_if< mpl::vector< int, char >, func< mpl::_1, mpl::int_< 10 > >::type iter; ... But if I try to use integral value instead: template< typename T, int Value > func : mpl::void_ {}; and typedef mpl::find_if< mpl::vector< int, char >, func< mpl::_1, 10 >::type iter; It fails on gcc 3.3.3 nor 3.4.3. So is it a limitation on language or compiler or library? I mean should second variant compile in generic? Regards, Vyacheslav
