Lawyers have advised me not to read patents, as knowingly violating a patent is a worse crime than unknowingly doing so.

How is somebody going to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that you read a patent for sure? Even if you did a patent search, you might of just read the Abstracts, and not any of the teachings... How to prove?
