I tested these patches on darwin (gcc 4.0.1). They didn't break anything; which is not really surprising, since they are merely ifdef-ing out code on some systems - but not on darwin. If anyone builds with BOOST_NO_IOSTREAM and/or BOOST_NO_TYPEID, I would appreciate it if you could test out these patches.
