On a second thought and after a bit of googling, don't you think that Propp-Wilson Cycle Popping Random Tree algorithm would be more efficient ?
Actually, I'm looking for more path randomness, but competitive performance/speed is definitely a minimum requirement.
The paper describing the article is at http://dbwilson.com/ja/ It is very well explained and pseudo-code is clear enough to easily implement it :)
I'll read up on it when I get back from the dentist.
