I'd say all of the ones that you are interested in mentoring and all of the high-scoring ones that you're not interested in mentoring. You'll see some of them that arent really coherent, have already been scored very low, and don't have the magic mailing-list-archive-link that indicates that they even read these announcements (my invention). Those you can ignore. Google has said that the selection process is supervised, not automatic. I assume they will take into account if a proposal has been ranked highly by multiple potential mentors. So I'd like to have at least the good ones (say, top 20%) at least read/scored/commented by most mentors. Help especially needed from whoever is intersted in mentoring devector and the graph projects (who put these ideas on the wiki?)... there are lots of proposals to filter. -t

Graph proposals are between me and the guys at IU/OSI. Andrew Sutton andrew.n.sutton@gmail.com

I think all potential mentors should rate as many applications as they find time to evaluate. It's the mentors who will collectively decide how to rank applications, and thus, which ones will get selected. This may involve not only individual ranking, but also some internal discussion. Agreed. Also, I think it might be nice to write a short explanation of grades we're giving. Last time I checked, it's not good etiquette to reject a research paper from publication "just because". Andrew Sutton andrew.n.sutton@gmail.com

Yes. The GSoC web application has a 'public' checkbox for reviews. If we don't check that, comments will be 'private' (meaning: only seen by mentors), so we may put annotations there. I'm not sure what other medium we may use for such 'internal' discussions. Regards, Stefan -- ...ich hab' noch einen Koffer in Berlin...
