Re: Anyone interested in network interface (sockets)library?

Jonathan - thanks for the info. I hadn't seen the wiki before; is it an "official" boost area? The giallo project looks light on the surface. Perhaps more is available in its CVS repository. I will have to see figure out why my search didn't turn up any messages - several threads were referenced in the wiki. Odd. You mentioned several works in progress, but only giallo was mentioned on the wiki. I will look at the Yahoo files area next. Were is the best place to discuss the design of this library? Here? Thanks again! Don

Yes, everyone is interested in a sockets library ;-)
There are several works in progress. A number of them are in the Yahoo files section. The furthest along, I think, is Hugo Duncan's Giallo project.

There's also some discussion on the Wiki:

Not currently, but I believe it was decided at OOPSLA that it should be made official.

It looks like the sourceforge project hasn't released any files. I believe that a substantial amount of work has been done, though. I see that there is quite a bit of code by Hugo Duncan under 'socket' in the sandbox, but I don't think this is the most recent version. Oh, here's a recent post by Hugo Duncan: http://lists.boost.org/MailArchives/boost/msg71248.php

I am really glad that process, threading and sockets received such high votes at OOPSLA. In particular, since I am about to indulge into a third port of yet another, good but abandoned, UNIX program to Windows and I keep encountering the same issues over and over again. Blame POSIX or Microsoft POSIX support or whoever...people keep reinventing the wheel in many different ways. It would be nice if we were informed about the progress in this nG, every once in a while (read: WIKI confuses me and often I don't know where to look and what to look for.) Tony
