Search Functionality Now Available on beta.boost.org
Hey everyone, We have added search functionality to beta.boost.org. Currently, a search button appears on each library's documentation page and generic pages like https://beta.boost.org/doc/libs/. When users are browsing a specific library page, the search box will have a limited scope for that specific library's documentation. However, on generic pages, it will search across all libraries. Once we ensure its stability and user-friendly experience, we look forward to incorporating it into the main website. If you have any suggestions or encounter any issues while using the search functionality, please reply to this email. Your feedback will greatly assist us in refining the search feature and ensuring it meets the needs of Boost users. Respectfully Yours, Mohammad Nejati ---- C++ Alliance Staff Engineer

I don't see any Search button on the home page here: https://beta.boost.org/ Thanks
Currently, the search index only includes library documentation. I
have avoided adding it to the home page. It is only available on
library-related pages such as:
https://beta.boost.org/doc/libs/1_82_0/
If we add a search box to the home page, users might expect to find
the content of pages like
https://beta.boost.org/community/reviews.html by searching there.
Thanks

I think "users" expect to see a 25-year old website and would be delighted to notice that something new is finally happening. Anyone else on the list want to see some exciting changes on the home page or should we keep this feature tucked away and out of sight, hiding on just the Libraries page? Thanks

I think "users" expect to see a 25-year old website and would be
20 years. Also, holy hell it's been 20 years since I did that! But seriously.. Having the search button everywhere is good. Just make sure it's clear to users that it doesn't search the whole web site. -- -- René Ferdinand Rivera Morell -- Don't Assume Anything -- No Supone Nada -- Robot Dreams - http://robot-dreams.net

Boost was founded in 1998, we're in 2023...

How about changing the button title to "Search The Libraries..."? Thanks

This should work, and maybe it's not such a big deal in the first
place. I mean, it will be rare for someone to expect to search for a
page like this on boost.org:
https://www.boost.org/community/generic_programming.html
Thanks.

Let me clarify that it appears on every page in libraries. For example:
https://beta.boost.org/doc/libs/1_82_0/doc/html/boost_asio/reference.html
https://beta.boost.org/doc/libs/1_82_0/doc/html/boost_asio/reference/executi...
My assumption has been that users often land on the libraries page and
they will notice the search button. However, I do agree that if we
want to announce that boost.org now has search functionality, people
will go to boost.org and find nothing.
Thanks

Now, the search button is visible on every page of https://beta.boost.org.
Please let me know what you think about incorporating it into the main website.

The functionality looks good to me. I'm not sure the placement is best, but if the majority prefer it in the top right corner then I'm happy to go with that. Glen
I absolutely totally love this! It's brilliant. At the moment I look for things by using ctags on my boost installation, but this is way better. Thanks to all who made this happen, look forward to seeing it in the main site. Rob. On Thu, 6 Jul 2023, 19:58 Mohammad Nejati [ashtum] via Boost, < boost@lists.boost.org> wrote:
