[1.35.0] Going live with the new web site

What has to be done to go live with the new web site? I assume this should happen as soon as the release packages go up on Sourceforge. Thanks, --Beman

Beman Dawes wrote:

The short list: 1. Test a 1.35.0 RC ZIP in the docs section. 2. Fill in the few blank pages, and some minor doc edits. 3. Put in the download of BBv2 snapshots. For (1) it would help if this I posted about earlier where done: Rene Rivera wrote:
It would help me in testing the web site integration if those archives followed the names of previous releases (both externally and internally). Hence "boost_1_35_0.[zip|tar.gz|tar.bz2|7z" with the top level dir of "boost_1_35_0". As otherwise I have to manually twiddle the ZIP for use in the web site.
But I can cope even if it's not addressed. I'll try and get all this done today.

At minimum. But earlier is better. So if we can aim to switch tomorrow or Saturday that would be good. -- -- Grafik - Don't Assume Anything -- Redshift Software, Inc. - http://redshift-software.com -- rrivera/acm.org (msn) - grafik/redshift-software.com -- 102708583/icq - grafikrobot/aim,yahoo,skype,efnet,gmail

I set that up yesterday. But we should look at RC3 to be double sure.

Because of personal schedule, I've got a really strong incentive to get my end done by Saturday noon (Eastern time) at the latest. --Beman

I've done everything I can remember at the moment with the web site, except for the 1.35.0 archive browsing. But we don't need that to go live with the site, we only need it when the release happens. So unless I'm told otherwise I'll merge the current state of the beta site to the live location late tomorrow morning (CDT). And if nothing serious breaks at that point, we should be able to repoint the DNS entries. -- -- Grafik - Don't Assume Anything -- Redshift Software, Inc. - http://redshift-software.com -- rrivera/acm.org (msn) - grafik/redshift-software.com -- 102708583/icq - grafikrobot/aim,yahoo,skype,efnet,gmail

Sound good. Everything remains on schedule to generate RC3 tomorrow morning. --Beman

The web site is now merged into the live location. And it seems to work at first glance. To view the live web site you can go to the live alias: http://(live).boost.org/ (remove the parens as I don't want the crawlers to inadvertently index that address). -- -- Grafik - Don't Assume Anything -- Redshift Software, Inc. - http://redshift-software.com -- rrivera/acm.org (msn) - grafik/redshift-software.com -- 102708583/icq - grafikrobot/aim,yahoo,skype,efnet,gmail

The release files are being uploaded to Sourceforge now. If all goes smoothly, that whole process will be done by mid-morning. Let's go over the repointing of the DNS entries to make sure I do the right thing. The current relevant A record entries are: beta.boost.org -> 129.79.245.252 boost.org -> 66.35.250.210 live.boost.org -> 129.79.245.252 So to repoint, I'll change the boost.org entry to 129.79.245.252, right?. Do I then delete either of the other two entries? Thanks, --Beman

No. We still need the beta.boost.org as that is truly a separate site in that it reflects the beta state in SVN. Done. boost.org is getting the new site. So far www.boost.org is still getting the old site for me, but hopefully that is just until some dns cache entry expires. Easydns says it takes at least an hour for caches to clear. There wasn't any A record entry for www.boost.org, by the way. --Beman

I still get the old site :-( But my ISP has always been slow in getting DNS changes. Cool! I just had a quick look through the new docs section. The math, regex or thread docs don't seem to be up (yet?). Also, the Boost.System doc style seems to have gone a bit funky compared to what it looks like in trunk, but they're still usable. -- Darren

When I display the web pages in certain aspect ratios, (I have a monitor which displays in portrait mode) frames are placed on top of each other. This happens on the main page as well as other pages. I believe you could reproduce this by changing the page size in your browser. I'm using IE 7. Robert Ramey Rene Rivera wrote:

When I display the web pages in certain aspect ratios, (I have a monitor which displays in portrait mode) frames are placed on top of each other. This happens on the main page as well as other pages. I believe you could reproduce this by changing the page size in your browser. I'm using IE 7.
Hm... I think I see what you are referring to. Did I ever mention I hate IE? ...I'll try and tweak it into functioning correctly with IE. -- -- Grafik - Don't Assume Anything -- Redshift Software, Inc. - http://redshift-software.com -- rrivera/acm.org (msn) - grafik/redshift-software.com -- 102708583/icq - grafikrobot/aim,yahoo,skype,efnet,gmail

Let's go over the repointing of the DNS entries to make sure I do the right thing. The current relevant A record entries are:
beta.boost.org -> 129.79.245.252 boost.org -> 66.35.250.210 live.boost.org -> 129.79.245.252
So to repoint, I'll change the boost.org entry to 129.79.245.252, right?. Yes.
Do I then delete either of the other two entries? No. We still need the beta.boost.org as that is truly a separate site in that it reflects the beta state in SVN. And it's the one we will test changes out in before moving them to the live site in an ongoing basis. OK. The release files are on Sourceforge, I've downloaded each and compared to the originals, and AFAICT we are ready to go live. Just let me know when to repoint the DNS entries.
The release date is today. Repoint now :-) I'm working on making minor changes to add the 1.35

And I just merged the changes to make 1.35 appear into the live site.
boost.org is getting the new site. So far www.boost.org is still getting the old site for me, but hopefully that is just until some dns cache entry expires. Easydns says it takes at least an hour for caches to clear. There wasn't any A record entry for www.boost.org, by the way.
I still get the old site :-( But my ISP has always been slow in getting DNS changes. I checked on the web server itself and it says:
-bash-3.00$ host boost.org boost.org has address 129.79.245.252 -bash-3.00$ host www.boost.org www.boost.org is an alias for vhost.sourceforge.net. vhost.sourceforge.net has address 66.35.250.210
So yes, there's no A record for www.boost.com, as it's an alias record.
Hum... I didn't see the C (alias) record because I failed to scroll down on the screen. I've now delete the C record and added an A (host) record for www.boost.org. That hasn't propagated to my ISP yet. I'll keep trying www.boost.org from time to time to make sure it works. --Beman
