[Slightly OT] How to close bugs on SF?

Hello, I'm wondering how to assign or close a bug report on SF. Do I need special rights for this? If yes, can't we just give those rights to all boost members? Markus

I don't know; did you try and fail to do it?

When I add a new Boost developer, I always give him maximal privileges (other than admin privileges), so that he can make himself maximally useful on Boost. I'm not sure how the other admins deal with it. -- Dave Abrahams Boost Consulting www.boost-consulting.com

When logging in and then looking at a specifig bug, I can't change anything, besides adding a comment. In the overview, I can't assign a bug to myself, because I don't see a way how to do that. There is an admin link on both pages, when selecting it, I get the message "You do not have admin status on any trackers for this project".

Hmm, I'm wondering if one really has to be a project admin to change the status of a tracker item. Markus

I did a little reading and here is what I found at http://sourceforge.net/docman/display_doc.php?docid=24202&group_id=1 <quote> 15 Issue Assignment Tracker Technicians are responsible for processing submitted issues. Issues may be assigned to any project member designated as a Technician for that Tracker using the "Assigned To" pulldown menu on the Tracker item view. Users are encouraged not to change the assignment of their Tracker items. Project teams are better equipped than their users to know who would be the best person to respond to a particular issue. To change the assignment of a Tracker item, select the desired Technician in the "Assigned To" pulldown menu, then click on the "Submit Changes" button. Tracker Technicians and Admins may also change issue assignment using the Mass Update feature. </quote> So it seems one has to be a Tracker Technicians (or an admin) to assign a tracker item to someone. Maybe all developers should be given this role? Markus

Well, yeah. I started the process of giving everyone maximal permissions and adding them to all the trackers, and it's very time consuming. If you'd like I'll be happy to give you temporary project admin privileges so you can do it. -- Dave Abrahams Boost Consulting www.boost-consulting.com

Dave, in the document I mentioned earlier, reading item 21 (Tracker Permissions) gives me the impression that there should be a way to add all users at once. <quote> 7. To add a project member as a Tracker Technician, select their name from the box in the "Add These Users" section of the page, then click on the "add users" button. You may use the "add all users" checkbox to enable Tracker access for all team members. After adding the users to the Tracker, change their permissions as needed. </quote> Does that help in any way? It speeds things up a bit, but there are five trackers, and for each one, after adding all developers, you have to pull down a menu for each developer and set it to "Admin & Tech." It's still a lot of admin. Wouldn't you like to volunteer? -- Dave Abrahams Boost Consulting www.boost-consulting.com

Ok, I'm your man. I'll try to do it over the weekend or early next week. Markus

Ok, you are a Boost project admin for the next seven days. If you can find the time, it would be good to enable all other capabilities (other than project admin) for everyone. Anything we can do to make it easier for people to take on volunteer responsibilities would be a good thing. Thanks! -- Dave Abrahams Boost Consulting www.boost-consulting.com

Phew! I enabled everything for everyone, short of project admin, of course. Tried to remove the admin status from myself, but that is not permitted. So you will have to un-admin me again. BTW, SF should seriously consider some usability enhancements for projects admins, I think. ;-) Markus
