Doug, can you make it so that these posts all start separate threads? Thanks Thomas Douglas Gregor wrote:

This report lists all regression test failures on release platforms.

I can confirm that this new package fixes the filesystem issue reported earlier. Thanks very-much. -Brian

This *is* a separate thread. (Note the lack of References and In-Reply-To in Doug's posting.)
The problem may be that your mail reader is organizing e-mail by subject.
Yep I know, imprecise wording on my side. Make this popular mail readers don't thread them. Thanks Thomas PS: I know this should be fixed on the client side, but unfortunately we are still restricted to living in the real world. Oh well! -- Thomas Witt witt@acm.org

I thought Outlook Express threaded correctly. I know Evolution does. So does Thunderbird, when configured properly. I see you're using Thunderbird. You can configure it to thread properly by setting these options in user.js: user_pref("mail.thread_without_re", false); user_pref("mail.strict_threading", true); You will need to delete your *.msf files so that Thunderbird can regenerate them.

The unfortunate fact of the matter is that, by and large, this behavior is deliberate. Apparently the perception on the part of the developers of mail clients that group unrelated messages with matching subjects is that their users demand this functionality. The solution, then, is for users who find this functionality objectionable either to change it or to use a different mail reader that functions as desired. The solution is not for persons to start adding arbitrary noise to the subjects of their e-mail. -- Braden McDaniel e-mail: <braden@endoframe.com> <http://endoframe.com> Jabber: <braden@jabber.org>

Thanks for the info. I was not aware of that.

Frankly, you are missing the point. These messages are important (at least I think so). I don't want them to be lost in a random thread. I.e. I want a subject line that avoids threading whatever client or default configuration is used. More important I want it now and I don't want to educate otherwise busy people about their client/configuration choice to get there. That being said I do agree in general and I never intended to set a general policy for messages other than regression notifications. Regards Thomas -- Thomas Witt witt@acm.org

Note your repeated use of "I" above. "You" have the tools to fix this for "you". As indicated, there apparently exists a significant number of users who *want* otherwise unrelated messages with the same subject to be grouped together. I don't understand this desire; but I can't deny that it exists. As such, I find dubious the suggestion that, for such users, messages so grouped become "lost in a random thread". You and I might see it that way; but I think if they saw it that way, they wouldn't really like this behavior. -- Braden McDaniel e-mail: <braden@endoframe.com> <http://endoframe.com> Jabber: <braden@jabber.org>

Obviously I (there it is again) am incapable of explaining this to you. I (the review manager) am not concerned about me (well at least not on this occasion). I am concerned about these messages to be in peoples face as much as possible. Thomas -- Thomas Witt witt@acm.org

I'm concerned about that too. Braden, why not put the date in the subject line as before? -- Andreas Huber When replying by private email, please remove the words spam and trap from the address shown in the header.

How about Thunderbird used as a news (NNTP) reader, reading messages from the Gmane mail-to-news gateway? Do you know if in this case the client's Thunderbird should be re-configured, or rather the Gmane servers should? Thanks, Yuval

It's entirely a client issue. -- Braden McDaniel e-mail: <braden@endoframe.com> <http://endoframe.com> Jabber: <braden@jabber.org>
