Hi, The French most active and visited developer community, Developpez.com, would like to know if you were okay to do the traduction of Boost's doc, because it's a problem for many of our visitors that the doc is only readable in English. Would you be okay ? Best regards. -- Alp Mestan --- http://blog.mestan.fr/ --- http://alp.developpez.com/ --- In charge of the Qt, Algorithms and Artificial Intelligence sections on Developpez

Certainly. If you have a link I'll be happy to add it to the community and documentation pages. Daniel

I guess Alp is asking for a translation rather than proposing a link to an already done one. Although it would certainly be a huge work, I'd be happy to participate to such a project, begin French myself. But given the volume of documentation to treat, I think we have to find at least 15 people to be able to do that in a reasonable time. Anyway, if such a community can be found on this list, I'd be happy to be part of it. Bruno

Hi, I'm spanish but I live in france since a long time. If there are enough people I would also participate to the french transalation, in particular I'm interested in translating Boost.Thread or Boost.Interprocess libraries. I think that we will need a specific ML. Can we add a new mailing list (something like boost-traslation-fr@lists.boost.org) for this traslations if there is enough interest? What about a spanish traslation? Vicente

Hi, Really sorry, of course I meant "translation" instead of "traduction"... I realy gotta sleep much more :/ I have some users of our communité who asked me if it would be possible to _translate_ Boost's doc. I know it's a huge work, but we'll maybe find many people. So I'd like to know if Boost's "moderators" would be okay for that. If they are, we'll find the best organization to do that. That's not the main problem. For people on this ML who are interested, let me know it by mail at alp@mestan.fr. Thanks. Best regards. On 10/19/08, vicente.botet <vicente.botet@wanadoo.fr> wrote:

Maybe boost-docs@lists.boost.org would be a suitable list for discussion? -- Lars Viklund | zao@acc.umu.se | 070-310 47 07

`traduction' is not an English word, you probably meant `translation'.
Before making such a statement you should peruse an English dictionary. It is most definitely in my "Webster's 3rd New International Dictionary" for English so I would really be surprised if it was not an English word. The "Webster's" is not the OED but it is pretty good.

Thanks, but the fact is that I was really tired and I wanted to write translation, but my hands didn't. _______________________________________________

I did a quick check on wikipedia, wiktionary and google, and couldn't find "traduction" as an English word. I also asked a few native speakers which told me it didn't exist as far as they knew. So I assumed it either isn't one or that it has little enough usage that a great amount of people wouldn't consider it to be.

I suppose I was wrong then. Still, I think using "translation" would be clearer.

"Traduction" is a 'false friend'. Some dictionaries may show it as an obsolete synonym for "translate", but it's so obscure that most dictionaries don't list it at all. Phil.

This shows that online sources should not be taken as a source of truth all of the time.

LOL ! What "a great amount of people" consider correct and what is correct are often different.

I agree with that, but non-native English speaking people should not be told they are wrong when they go "by the book".

Perhaps a great amount of netiquette-aware people would consider this off-topic? -- Genny
