It generally isn't. I've never noticed a problem before. But I heard of it once -- when I brought a zipped boost distro with me to a course I was teaching, it took each developer an hour to unzip it.

my guess is that developers will have found an alternate solution long before downloading the boost distribution.

Okay. I guess if this is a problem which might occur for the first time while unzipping boost, it makes sense to provide a self-extracting archive in addition to the three formats already provided. Jonathan
