Looking at those results reminds me that the Release version of random still contains the failure raised in the ticket @ http://svn.boost.org/trac/boost/ticket/1423, which was fixed in Trunk a while back. Is it worth merging that change into the release branch?

Yes, as long as it is stable on trunk, and can done right away.
