I am using the free version of Hotmail. I have filters to move the files from my inbox into a designated folder and hit "Reply" to reply to the messages.
Maybe, you can try NNTP interface? Both Outlook and Thunderbird can be used on Windows. I use NNTP exclusively to read boost traffic, and it works OK w.r.t threading.
