I don't look at patents. Everything I've described is either my own (re-)invention or taken from the 1981 paper "Multidimensional Range Search in Dynamically Balanced Trees" by Tropf and Herzog that is linked from the Z-curve Wikipedia page.
Presumably that could affect its adoption into boost?
