I am also puzzled at the number of support requests which start with "I'm using Boost 1.3x".
I'd speculate that these two observations are connected. Plenty of folks will not be willing to update at the release rate of boost. For example, I might select a linux distribution (that contains boost) and use it for 2-3 years before switching. At the current rate of 4 Boost releases/year, I could be 8-12 releases behind.
Should we not be saying "If you are more than n (=2?) releases behind - Tough! Upgrade before you as again!")
I can sympathize with this reaction. But consider the user's point of view, too. -Steve
