My suggestion is to wait until we've shipped 1.53.0_beta1 (which should be Monday), and then merge. The change will still show up in the final 1.53.0 release.
The current state is that we've built beta1_rc1, and we're waiting for feedback about whether or not that's going to be acceptable as a beta1 release.
