- what is the current state of git concerning windows support? As someone pointed out, there is no official efforts to make it easily portable to windows and tools are problematic on windows.

I use git on windows, linux and OSX on a regular basis and windows support is fine. MSysGit combined with TortoiseGit makes it easy to use for beginners, tho sometimes git's performance on windows is a bit slow. Linux lacks a good TortoiseGit equivalent that integrates with the file explore imho, but this is improving with RabbitCVS & GitG. Philippe
