My advice though would be to provide defaults with value semantics just for QoL reasons for the users. I don't know how expensive the costs of a copy would be.. but I'm guessing it's not huge. You can always have a ref_segment too, and in memory tight situations the users with that need will be treated as well.
Didn't react on this yet, but you are right. It is better to have a ggl::segment like you describe, and provide an additional ggl::ref_segment, with references. Thanks, Barend
