Of course those mistakes with forgotten updates when keeping the generated artifacts in the repo can be mitigated by a CI check that e.g. generates the sources and fails if there are differences. This also has the advantage of contributors being able to do that in PRs touching documentation.
BTW, Sam Darwin has set up docs preview for PRs for some of the Boost libs. I am currently working on a significant change to JSON's documentation and the preview is very handy.
