If STL containers cannot be made by any means to use the stack for storage then we need a new set of containers.
My guess is that they can. I'm just suggesting that to do so requires special consideration. You should actually read this pape and see what these guys did. http://www.open-std.org/jtc1/sc22/wg21/docs/papers/2005/n1850.pdf It might give you some insights on related techniques.
