I haven't seen anyone mention what seems to me the most obvious advantage of "git" for a large collaborative project like Boost:

For me the most obvious advantage compared to the current solution is that it's decentralized. This implies much more than what people unexperienced with a decentralized revision system imagine... it allows people to contribute much more easily and also it allows booster to review modifications more easily too imho.
