Ok, I've just made one final change, which should take care of this as well as most of the other outstanding readability issues. I've underlined the text links and changed the visited links to dark grey. The underlining makes the links clearly distinguishable from both the surrounding text and the headings (the larger blue text), and makes the links clearly visible even for the completely colorblind. The dark grey gives the visisted links more contrast against the white background and clearly distinguishes them from the unvisited links. The only outstanding issues I see are the problems of right-hand menus under lynx and scalability that Peter mentioned and the question of whether the menu font should be larger. I'm hesitant to go any further on this without Rene's explicit permission though. I was only trying to illustrate a proposed change and get it right based on feedback, but I'm starting to feel like I'm usurping Rene's position as designer.
