I think that it's better to not talk of old compilers as a generic category. The classic old compiler, MSVC 6.0, is no longer relevant, and dropping support for it is both nearly free and enormously beneficial in terms of eliminating workarounds. I agree that Borland C++ is still both old and active, but support for it wasn't dropped at the config level.
