Actually no, I don't think it's appropriate for asio to manage this state internally.
Ok I can live with that. I'm trying to integrate in "legacy" code which queries for the the socket state. The HTTP parser attempts to determine the end of an HTTP 0.9 type request by testing if the socket is closed for read.
