It looks okay. Not perhaps as idiomatic as a ground up redesign, but your retrofit should allow more comparative benchmarking. The static assert looking for E in expected<T, E> to have a nothrow copy constructor was excessively strict due to a then lack of never empty guarantee. It has been fixed since in develop branch.
