My tests on 14 different platforms (incl. all the gcc's that failed before) also finished successfully. Therefore I just went ahead and checked in John's patch for boost/python/object_core.hpp (revision 1.46). Thanks John!
Good news! Thanks for taking the time to test it - I know when I was messing about with this under cygwin, that those tests take ages to run. John.
