I agree with Allen -- fixed width is bad. Basically it wastes space on my monitor and forces me to scroll when I shouldn't have to.
Also some people use quite low resolutions and large fonts, and don't want to have to scroll left and right.
I've got a new Dell Inspiron 700m. The resolution is 1280 X 800. With that wide aspect ratio, I want a web page to use the full width. --Beman
