We've already had this discussion on this list several times now. The way conversion is currently represents the lowest amount of data loss. That's why they chose that option. If you don't care too much about corrupting history, I have a lovely patch sitting as a pull request to Boost2Git which will generate you all EOL correct text for all of migrated history.
