Gee, thanks for jumping on this so quickly! I wanted to apply your findings to a solution, but then I realized what stumped me in the first place: this code can be pretty obscure :-) I wanted to correct s_item's type typedef by replacing it with something like element_type, until I saw that type is already a typedef for item_type. Still I'm gonna proceed and see how far that gets me. I'll keep you posted. Thanks again, Sven
