That's a very good compromise. The only drawback is that it requires an Internet connection, which is a PITA if you have to go offline and don't have access to the docs. This happens to me a lot of times and I hate it when it does.
Maybe they need to be easier to download. You can currently download them from the cowic server. But it only includes the generated files, so they aren't very readable until you unzip them into a copy of boost, and it'd be a bad idea to that into your working copy.
