I'm not so sure either which is why I'm asking :-) Since I can only test this on a uni-processor x86 with cw-83 I just don't know if there are significant gains in other configurations.

OK.. I think I'll commit it but in a commented out form (as you did with the others early on). That way if others have the capabilities to test it further, and finally answer the performance question, it can be used.
I have a dual G4 at home, so I could probably run an executable you send me there when I get back on Tuesday.
