RE SVN access: I say the guild members never get SVN access. Work indefinitely without it. Or if they want it, they run the gauntlet the current volunteers do. (I have no desire to run that gauntlet myself.)
"The gauntlet" often just involves getting a maintainer to ask the moderators to grant them access. It's not a big deal.
