For an example that is easier to follow, you can look at the .travis.yml of Boost.Function: https://github.com/boostorg/function/blob/develop/.travis.yml The only problematic part there is the manual enumeration of the necessary submodules that comprise the minimal subset needed for testing Function, although I'm working on automating that.
