Cast free NULLs in algorithms

Hello, I have something like: class A; boost::array<A*,10> the_array; std::fill( the_array.begin(), the_array.end(), NULL ); Which wont compile (at least under Visual Studio 2005) without a cast for NULL... I've had this problem before and decided to try to find an easy cast free expressive solution for it. After a few minutes I came up with: namespace detail { struct null_ptr_impl { template< typename T > operator T* () const { return static_cast<T*>(0); } }; } // end namespace detail const detail::null_ptr_impl null_ptr; std::fill( the_array.begin(), the_array.end(), null_ptr ); Does this exist somewhere already? [Multi-index] questions on max_size, incomplete docs, and common code

I'm trying out a multi-indexed container that uses a set-like (ordered_unique) interface and a vector-like (random_access) interface. Each interface has a "max_size" member function. Could they ever return different values? Some functions, like (member) swap and clear, have no definitions given. It seems like the author assumes that we'll assume that the undefined functions work like those in STL. But I'll prefer something more precise, to (1) confirm the exact semantics and (2) know the exact complexity these functions may have. (I noticed this problem while I was trying to define the complexity of my wrapper class's member functions.) Some member functions, like the aforementioned "max_size" and "clear," seem to be same for all index styles. Could those be re-factored into the main class, like "get_allocator" is? Hi guys, In the code below, there are three severe bugs: 1. The addition of the #pragma warning instead of using the localtime_s() and gmtime_s() functions which are similar to the localtime_r() and gmtime_r() functions (the parameters are swapped.) Thus, if _MSC_VER >= 1400, you need a new implementation with the "safe" versions. 2. The documentation says: //! requires a pointer to a user created std::tm struct because the function is expected to WRITE in that buffer. At this time, it does not do so and if you don't use the returned pointer, the pointer to the user defined tm struct is useless. You are missing a couple of asterisks in there! *result = *std::localtime(t); 3. In a multi-thread environment, which you detect with some BOOST_THREAD_ENABLED flag, you must use a scoped lock to protect these calls. Lock, call, return is what I'd expect to see here (is it prohibited for the c_time.hpp file to include the thread lock mechanism?) I hope I will see these three bugs fixed in a future version. [Accumulators] Passing construction arguments to dependent statistics

Given recent discussion on Time Series and Accumulators, I thought I would have a go at implementing a FIR filter for Accumulators, and have run into a problem. I decided to do this in two parts; first create a (reusable) delay statistic (similar to tail) that provides a history buffer for the signal and then create the filter (similar to tail_variate) , that will depend on the delay buffer. I have created the delay buffer with a length determined by a cache_size argument. This works well. I am now creating the filter, which has a "coefficents" argument to set the filter coefficients. I would like to pass the size of the coefficients list as the cache_size argument to the underlying delay buffer. Is this possible?

[thread_safe_signals] assertion failure (patch)

There's a little bug in member function nolock_force_unique_connection_list which causes an assertion inside nolock_cleanup_connections because the _shared_state.unique() is false because the local variable newState also references _shared_state. I hit two difficulties when building Boost from SVN-trunk. I found the post on May 23, 2006 by Thorsten Ottosen saying that the Property Tree Library has been accepted into Boost. But I don't see it on the main Boost libraries page, rather just the sandbox entry for the original review. Does anyone know where Property Tree wound up? Eric

[regex] regex_match algorithm strategy?

Hi I have to split a regular expression of the shape (simplified for this example) (?:\<(or)\>)|((?:[[:word:]]+)[[:blank:]]*(?=\()) the idea is to match (actually with regex_search algorithm) or as a keyword and to match function names in function invocations (or declarations); i.e., or ( should be matched as the keyword "or" and then a parenthesis, but foo ( "foo" should be matched as a function name the above expression works correctly (and I've always used that one). Now, I had to split that expression into two regular expressions (?:\<(or)\>) ((?:[[:word:]]+)[[:blank:]]*(?=\()) and try to match the above situations the same way. Thus, I'm trying to match each one and then take the one that matched first with the biggest length (and smallest prefix but this is not important now); of course I don't get the desired behavior, since in or ( "or" is matched as a function name. Thus I was wondering: which is the actual algorithm used by regex_search? Hi there, with the 1.34.1 release out the door, what are the plans concerning the repository and the various branches ? Where should bug fixes and other patches go ? Is the release branch going to become the new development branch, as was suggested in a mail some moons ago ? Should I wait for the subversion migration before doing anything ? Upcoming review of Time Series

With all the work for the release, there haven't been many reviews for a bit. Here is everyone's chance to get back into the reviewing swing. Next Monday (7/30/07) the review begins for the Time Series library from Eric Neibler. It is available for download now, of course using http://boost-consulting.com/vault/index.php?directory=Math%20-%20Numerics and scroll to the Time Series library. It is worth noting that the library uses components not available in the 1.34 release, and so should be tested against CVS Head. This is in the README file, but can be missed if you are just fiddling around. There is also a backport file to modify the 1.34 release if prefered. [format] Variable argument list and string assembly

Hi all, I'd like to create a method using some sort of variable argument list like it would be in printf style: foo(int code, const char *fmt, ...) {} ...but using boost format. Basically, the function shall compute the format string and than create a new string with the number in "code" in front of it and the result of the computed format following. It's for returning standard replies and do some stuff depending on the error code. And it must be as performant as reasonable. I only came up with something like this: void foo(int code, boost::format &fmt) { boost::format retfrmt("%d - message: "); retfrmt % code; std::cout << retfrmt.str().append(fmt.str()) << std::endl; } int main(int argc, char **argv) { reply(42, boost::format("%d test %s\n") % 23 % "Hello"); return 0; } which does what I expected: 42 - message: 23 test Hello But I don't like the usage a lot. Especially the fact that I have to write boost::format(...) when using the function. (could use a macro so that's not the killer issue) Also there seems to be a lot of unnecessary string copying involved so I wonder if this is a good way to do this. How does V2 testing work without a Jamfile.v2?

The regression tests for Lambda seem up and running, but I see no Jamfile.v2 in libs/lambda/test. There is a Jamfile but it appears to be v1 and is apparently not being used by the testers; I've added two new tests to it and they did not appear in the table. How does v2 testing work? Magic? Local v2 patches not reflected in HEAD even though HEAD is being tested?
