why is not boost::asio::deadline_timer.wait() blocking in this case?

While trying to understand the difference between wait() and async_wait, I modified the tutorial example a little to test 2 timers at the same time like this: int test_timer() { boost::asio::io_service io; size_t delay1 = 5; size_t delay2 = 3; boost::asio::deadline_timer t1(io, boost::posix_time::seconds(delay1)); boost::asio::deadline_timer t2(io, boost::posix_time::seconds(delay2)); boost::timer t; t2.wait(); std::cout << t.elapsed() << " sec elapsed!\n"; t1.wait(); std::cout << t.elapsed() << " sec elapsed!\n"; return 0; } I got this output: 3.004 sec elapsed! 5.007 sec elapsed! However, I was expecting t2 and t1 to execute sequentially and thus getting: 3.004 sec elapsed! 8 sec elapsed! What was wrong with my understanding about synchronous waiting here? Thanks.

[pool] allocators missing "void" specialisation?

Hello, excuse me, I am not sure whether this hasn't already been discussed or noted elsewhere, but aren't the allocator classes "pool_allocator<T,..>" and "fast_pool_allocator<T,..>" missing a template specialisation for T=void? In section 20.4.1 [lib.default.allocator] of the C++ standard 1998 the following specialisation is defined for class std::allocator: <code> template <class T> class allocator; // specialize for void: template <> class allocator<void> { public: typedef void* pointer; typedef const void* const_pointer; // reference-to-void members are impossible. typedef void value_type; template <class U> struct rebind { typedef allocator<U> other; }; }; </code> The library boost::multi_index, e.g., currently uses the std::allocator<void> notation. Change 45393 breaks Boost.Thread on WinCE

Hi, I've been looking at the current failures on trunk for Boost.Thread, and one platform that's failing a lot is VeecoFTC's msvc- 8.0~wm5~stlport5.1. Further investigation reveals that this is due to the lack of boost::date_time::microsec_clock, which is no longer present for this compiler since change 45393. The comment for the change says "Disable BOOST_HAS_FTIME on WinCE.", and the comment in the code says "GetSystemTimeAsFileTime not present on WinCE." Though the comment in the code is correct, there is already a macro for that in boost/config/compiler/visualc.hpp: BOOST_NO_GETSYSTEMTIMEASFILETIME WinCE *does* have FILETIME, and boost::date_time::microsec_clock uses it successfully on WinCE, with a workaround for the lack of GetSystemTimeAsFileTime. [filesystem] Problems with wpath on Linux

Hi, I'm trying to use fs::wpath on Linux and I'm encountering some problems with internal conversion of wide strings to external representation. git-svn conversion

Following the discussion with regards to the release process, I've managed to setup a git-svn mirror of the boost SVN repository for trunk and all its branches. It is updated hourly from the svn repository. The gitweb interface is available at http://git.jsharpe.net. To clone the repository run: git clone http://git.jsharpe.net/boost.git (Note this may take a little while - the whole history is currently 421M) To be able to commit back to the boost repository you need to run: git svn init --stdlayout --prefix svn/ --rewrite-root https://svn.boost.org/svn/boost http://svn.boost.org/svn/boost git svn fetch The git svn fetch command will rebuild the svn metadata and also update your working copy from svn(again takes quite a while as the boost repository has a lot of history!). Then to commit back to the boost repository you simply run git svn dcommit. James

Under fusion namespace we can write vector<int, double, string> v(1, 2.4, "hello"); print_type( at_c<2>(v) ); // prints string print_value( at_c<2>(v) ); // prints "hello" But number 2 in our example must be a compile time constant, we cannot write int idx = 2; at_c<idx>(v); // compile error here Sometime accessing an element in a fusion sequence indexed by a runtime variable could be useful, something like the following: vector<int, double, string> v(1, 2.4, "hello"); int idx; cout << "Give me an index" << endl; cin >> idx; apply_at(v, idx, print_type); // prints string if idx == 2, or int if idx == 0 apply_at(v, idx, print_value); // prints "hello" if idx == 2, or 1 if idx == 0 Because I didn't find something similar in fusion and I needed that for code I'm writing I cooked up my solution, it's very easy and if someone is interested I can post it. [shifted_ptr] Allocator added

Hola, I just finalized the design of shifted_ptr by adding a wrapper allocator called sh::pool. This can eventually be used as a second template argument over STL containers. Now shifted_ptr is bulletproof.... Once again I think there is some sort of stack overflow on GCC for Windows when Boost.Test macros are used so please us shifted_ptr_test2.cpp in that case. I am not sure also if Stephen Cleary has any intent extending Boost.Pool to handle arbitraty sized chunks, that would basically be the final step for having even faster allocations. I uploaded it on Vault and the Sandbox. Thank you, -Phil

Hello, a number of compilers (Intel, Acc, Cxx, Sun, Borland) currently have troubles compiling this test. All compilers are giving the same error message, namely that they can't convert from const functor_wrapper<...> to const counting_allocator<functor_wrapper<...> > & at boost/function/function_base.hpp:435 The test passes for me (using cxx 7.1) when applying the attached patch. I'm not really sure that this is the right fix, so could the someone please take a look, and possibly apply the patch if it's OK? Using the latest portable_binary_archive from the vault with boost 1.34.1 on Mac XCode 3 I'm getting a linker duplicate symbol error: ld: duplicate symbol boost::archive::basic_binary_oarchive<portable_binary_oarchive> ::save_override(boost::archive::class_id_optional_type const&, int) in .../Persistence.build/Debug/CxxTest.build/Objects-normal/ppc/AAA.o and .../Persistence.build/Debug/CxxTest.build/Objects-normal/ppc/BBB.o Any help in resolving this issue would be appreciated. Hello, I am looking for the BOOST library in either PDF/PS formats so that I can print the ones I need and read them offline (which I generally prefer). Reading though the boost documenting link, it appears quite a daunting task to setup boost doc build to generate PDF files (it has a bunch of dependencies). Select Implementation using Boost.Fusion

Okay, as an exercise I implemented the select function object in terms of Boost.Fusion's at_c<> sequence accessor function. The implementation is attached -- which works with standard containers that contain either standard pairs, or fusion sequences. This implementation relies on Boost.Fusion's adapted pair implementation to turn ordinary std::pair<>'s contained in a standard container (map, vector of pairs, etc) into fusion sequences. This implementation is much shorter than the earlier versions I've posted before. Should this be part of Boost.Fusion, or if there's interest should this little utility undergo a review for inclusion in Boost?
