[flyweight][sun] internal compiler error processing a Boost.Flyweight test

I' ve posted this to the testing list to no avail, resending here: Hi, I've recently added Boost.Flyweight to the trunk so that the first testing results are coming out now. Sun Studio (all plaforms) has the following issue when (seemingly) linking test_init: >> Assertion: (../lnk/dbg_dbggen.cc, line 1806) while processing ../libs/flyweight/test/test_init.cpp at line 0. *http://tinyurl.com/588y3e* So I'm basically clueless. I'd be grateful if someone with access to the compiler could investigate this issue a little more. I can provide as much remote support as needed wrt to library aspects. [non Boost] Template troubles.

Ok, first off, this is not explicitly about Boost, which I know is against the Boost guidelines, but I hope you'll all forgive me. Indirectly it is through trying to use Boost that i've bumped into this. Compile-time autoincrementable values

Hello everyone, I'm working on a small library to safely work with options made of flags combinations. I'm currently looking for a way to automatically generate contiguous indices, pretty much as an enum does. I was able to achieve this in a very impractical way, which I fear may be based on a compiler bug or an implementation-defined issue. I do not have access to the standard, and I will appreciate if someone with more experience than I could look at the code to confirm my fears. My doubts on standard conformance are mainly - compile time flags: the sizeof a function call expression changes as new overloads (better matches) are added. - sizeof as a default template non-type parameter: (this one really surprised me) when using sizeof as a default parameter it gets reevaluated each time the template is instantiated, so if the sizeof result changes a new type is created. >From there I just built a binary tree of flags, which I use as bits or binary digits. I have implemented it for values of 1, 2 and 3 bits only. [iterators] zip_iterator doesn't work with GCC's TR1 tuple?

Has anybody successfully used Boost.Iterator's zip_iterator with TR1 tuples from GCC's libstdc++? I keep getting errors like "error: no type named 'head_type' in 'class std::tr1::tuple<..." when using TR1 tuples with the zip_iterator implementation in Boost 1.35.0 -- am I missing something? I have code like this: using namespace std::tr1; vector<tuple<string, int, tuple<string, string, string> > > result; copy( make_zip_iterator( make_tuple( string_vector.begin(), int_vector.begin(), make_zip_iterator( make_tuple( string_vector1.begin(), string_vector2.begin(), string_vector3.begin() ) ) ) ), make_zip_iterator( make_tuple( string_vector.end(), int_vector.end(), make_zip_iterator( make_tuple( string_vector1.end(), string_vector2.end(), string_vector3.end() ) ) ) ), back_inserter(result) ); When I qualify the call to 'make_tuple' as 'boost::make_tuple' I don't see the error mentioned above, but I run into the conversion problem between a boost::tuple and an std::tr1::tuple. Is there a special reason to use inline before template functions?

Hi, in boost, many template functions (but not all) use inline. (Example from boost/accumulators/framework/accumulator_set.hpp that uses inline: template<typename Args> inline accumulator_visitor<Args> const make_accumulator_visitor(Args const &args) { return accumulator_visitor<Args>(args); } Example from boost/algorithm/minmax.hpp hat doesn't use inline: template <typename T> tuple< T const&, T const& > minmax(T const& a, T const& b) { return (b<a) ? make_tuple(cref(b),cref(a)) : make_tuple(cref(a),cref(b)); } ) Is there a special reason why inline is used for template functions? I would expect that current compilers know better when inlining a function provides a benefit than the programmer. So I guess there is a better reason for using the inline keyword before template function than just speculative performance optimization, but I can't figure it out. Can anybody help me? Most libs only prepend inline before template functions, but ublas prepends nearly every member function with the macro "BOOST_UBLAS_INLINE", which expands to "inline". Not a review - I would like to offer my fixed_pt code as an example, and placed it here: http://www.bitbucket.org/nbecker/fixed_pt/src/ Notes: 1) This is a fixed_pt class for run-time parameterization of bit widths. I'm using it to interface with python (so a compile-time parameterization would not be useful) 2) Some others have suggested different semantics for fixed_pt numbers. In particular, there is question about whether arithmetic operations on numbers of some bit-widths should give results of different bit-widths. I've elected to have operands and results have the same widths.

[config/interprocess] visual C++ express og /Za option

I got this error when I switch on the /Za option: d:\boost\trunk\boost\interprocess\detail\workaround.hpp(20) : fatal error C1083: Cannot open include file: 'unistd.h': No such file or directory The only thing I did was to add /Za to my Jamroot. The compiler switch is supposed to turn of microsoft extensions. Does anyone have any clues to what is going on? Thanks -Thorsten

[Signals] Call of an unary object function from a binary signal does not fail to compile

Hello, Almost everything is in the title. To go into details, I have a small test case (see attached file) where I accidentally manage to call a unary object function from a binary signal. The object function is the result of a Boost.Bind call. I would have expect a compile time error here. What happend to the second parameter ? Is there any risks of stack corruption ? Thanks, Samuel

Hi all, The mini-review of Andy Tompkins UUID library starts today, November 23rd 2008, and will end on November 30th. Here is a list of things fixed and changed: - fixed the licensing issues revealed by the initial review - fixed the security vulnerability revealed by the initial review - renamed to uuid, moved all classes, functions, etc. to namespace boost::uuids - implemented sha1 hash function (thus no license problem) - new class basic_uuid_generator to create random-based uuids. The random number generator is no longer hard coded. I'm getting the following assertion failure on exit when instantiating certain serializable classes: Assertion failed: NULL != l, file libs\serialization\src\extended_type_info.cpp, line 47 I was finally able to determine a difference between the classes that caused the assertion failure and those that didn't. However, compile_time_bounded is longish and may be interpreted as checking the bounds at compile time, while static_bounded may suggest that some static members are involved. What do others think?

[Serialize] error 'unable to start program' with demo.cpp compiled in debug mode under msvc7.1

Hi, when I compile the demo.cpp from the boost.serialize tutorial in release mode everything works fine. But when I compile it in debug mode the application wont start and the error 'unable to start program' is displayed. It further says that the application has failed to start because the configuration is incorrect. When I change something and do a recompile - the compiler fails: 'unable to update manifest. wrong parameter'. I then have to do a clean+rebuild and it compiles again but wont run until I comment out every boost.serialize code. I use MSVC7.1 (VS2005). I already have used the serialize library with boost version 1.34 successfully. Can someone help me with that issue? Has anybody experienced similar problems? Any help or hint would be appreciated.
