Dear Icl users, due to a subtle effect of the changed hint semantics for associative containers, the icl library is broken in versions <= 1.55.0 when used with new STL-libraries that implement the new c++11 standard. This bug is fixed in the upcoming Boost 1.56.0. (see regression tests at http://www.boost.org/development/tests/master/developer/icl.html) Since the release of boost 1.56.0 seems to take longer than planned due to restructuring efforts for modular-boost, users of Boost.Icl affected by the problem may choose to pull the fixed Boost.Icl directly from the git repository and replace your_boost_1_55_0/boost/icl with the new code. The libs/icl part does not need an update. Another possibility is to apply the patch-file diff_icl_1_55_0_and_master.patch that is attached to this post to your local boost library 1.55.0: 1. cd to your_boost_1_55_0 root directory. your_boost_1_55_0> 2. From the command line type your_boost_1_55_0> patch -p2 < diff_icl_1_55_0_and_master.patch You may check the patched library by moving to your_boost_1_55_0/libs/icl/test and run your_boost_1_55_0/libs/icl/test> bjam Sorry for the inconvenience. Best regards, Joachim P.S.: For those interested in details of the issue here is a report: The semantics of insertion with hint in associative containers changed in c++11 form insert-after-hint (c++98/03) to insert-before-hint (c++11) see e.g. proposal N1780: http://www.open-std.org/jtc1/sc22/wg21/docs/papers/2005/n1780.html so for an associative container c of type C, a value x and an iterator hint c.insert(hint, x); //tries to insert x right after hint in c++98 c.insert(hint, x); //tries to insert x before hint in c++11 In accordance with this behavior, if using the insert function std::pair<bool, iterator> C::insert(value_type const& x); (success, hint) = c.insert(x); the iterator hint of unsuccessful insertion is the matching hint, pointing to [c++98] the last element y in c that is not greater x, so x can be inserted *after* that hint. [c++11] the first element z in c that is greater than x, so x can be inserted *before* that hint. In Boost.Icl I used the returned hint-iterator of the insert function, that always returned the last overlapping interval y for an inserted interval x given the interval's exclusive-less ordering under c++98. With the changed hint semantics, this returned hint-iterator did not point to the last interval y overlapping x anymore but to the first interval z not overlapping x. Hi, I'm facing the problem with the too low limit for the compiler output size. See here: http://www.boost.org/development/tests/develop/developer/output/FBSD-64%20j… The output contains 2 warnings and part of what may be the actual error. This log is not really helpful, so I have 2 questions: 1. Can this limit be increased? 2. Can I get the full output somehow? Thanks.

Hi everyone , I am Animesh Gaitonde , 4th year student from Bits-Pilani,India.My major is Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering and I am interested in contributing to Boost during GSoC 2014.I have gone through the different GSoC projects and idea's on Boost' C++ Libraries' homepage for the Summer of Code(SoC). I found the numerical library Boost.Odeint interesting.I have completed a course on Numerical Analysis and also used Boost.Odeint for algorithmic assignments.Moreover,I have been using C++ for around 3 years and I am familiar with STL and to some extent with numerical algorithms. I have gone through the documentation of Odeint and learnt about its structure.I solved a few examples and used different explicit Steppers for solving the ODE's.Currently since Odeint supports only explicit methods it would be better to expand it by adding implicit routines and also to make the existing implicit methods(Euler and Rosenbrock) independent of Boost.uBlas to have greater flexibility.I am learning about the different numeric algorithms for solving ODE's,their implementation in Odeint and along with it solving the ordinary differential equations whose solution cannot be determined analytically. I would like to get in touch with Mario Mulansky or Karsten Ahnert , the mentors for this project to provide me with further pointers for developing the proposal and any tasks which they would like to give me so that I get familiar with Odeint. [hash] Type trait for hash functions that are well distributed.

Hi, I'm thinking about adding a type trait for hash functions to indicate if it's appropriate to use them with a "power of 2" hash table. This would let hash tables be more efficient when using an appropriate hash function, especially when compiling for 64 bit. Any thoughts on how this should be designed? I have a rough design in mind (similar to the allocator_traits propagation traits), but would like to hear other's ideas first. thanks, Daniel

[regression] Where's boost/assert.hpp ??

While making changes to the regression testing tools to deal with the new locations I ran into a severe blocker. It seems that nothing compiles any more because somehow "boost/assert.hpp" is no longer around and just about all Boost code depends on that one file. Where did the file go? And if was intentionally removed, why wasn't all the uses fixed by now? I'd like to request a formal review of Boost.Align Description: Boost.Align is a tiny library that provides alignment related utilities that several Boost libraries (Boost.Log, Boost.Smart_Ptr, etc.) re-implement themselves. Specifically it provides a function for pointer alignment (boost::align, as many vendors do not provide the C++11 std::align), functions for aligned allocation (boost::aligned_alloc, and boost:: aligned_free), and a class template for a C++ allocator that respects type (or minimum) alignment (boost::aligned_ that can serve as a replacement for std::allocator that works with over-aligned types). Developing a (nearly new) library possibly to be proposed for Boost

I'm revisiting https://svn.boost.org/trac/boost/wiki/StartModDev to try set up a new library. I've started by trying to use the simple 'library' I created over a year ago using a previous version of this document. Is it intended that users should place their 'Boost-Wannabe' libraries in the modular-boost in /libs/mylibrary as other real Boost libraries ? When I assumed this, I found it impossible to GIT clone my existing 'simple' library into the /libs folder as it is not empty, so the 2nd line git clone <mailto:git@github.com:Beman/simple.git> git@github.com:Beman/simple.git fails. This feels the right place for Or is recommended to use some folder like sandbox/libs/mylibrary/ for one's stuff, including of course a sandbox/libs/mylibrary/include/boost/mylibrary/ to hold my .hpp files? Either way I presume I need a link from modular-boost/boost to point to sandbox/libs/mylibrary/include/ Should I provide a symbolic link /D or a hardlink (as b2 headers creates)? I went through the ideas page and at the bottom section i found some ideas related to data-structures and algorithms. But the page said that students have to propose their own project using the ideas listed there. I need to discuss what things i can do related to the ideas as my gsoc project..? Hello, In forthcoming google summer of code I'm thinking of implementing *Suffix Array* data structure. As a data structure, it is widely used in areas such as data compression, bioinformatics and, in general, in any area that deals with strings and string matching problems. So I think It would be very cool to add this data structure in Boost Libraries. Here is some brief description of some method which I have planned so far :- 1) Creation of Suffix array in O(n log n ), there is a relatively easy implementation in O(n (log n)^2) using STL's sort function, but radix sort we can achieve O(n log n) .... :) 2) Longest common prefix of any two suffix in O (log n) 3) Total distinct substring of given string in O(n log n) I'll be glad to hear some suggestion. [log] Default logging configuration for trivial logger

Hi, I'm using the trivial logging interface, but I need to tweak the default configuration. I want to be able to flush after every log entry, and I also want to be able to do file rolling. As far as I can tell, in order to configure it this way, I pretty much need to configure the whole thing from scratch including formatters, but I can't find the code that sets up the default logger to replicate it. Hello, I would like to ask about interest in an idea of mine. I described it in detail [1] and implemented it as part of my cz libraries [2]. In short, the idea presents: - an alternative to implicitly copyable and movable types: making them explicitly copyable; - a protocol for explicitly stating in code, where a copy is to be made (boost::copy()), which compliments the protocol for explicitly stating in code, where a move is allowed (std::move() or boost::move()); - a Boost.move extension for implementing movable types with use of the pass-by-value and swap idiom, backwards-compatible with C++98, which allows to choose copying policies (and eases changing between these policies during maintenance): - movable but not copyable, - movable and explicitly-copyable, - movable and copyable; - an example, showing how simply a CloneablePtr can thereby be implemented. This extension to Boost.move is hosted and developed as part of my cz libraries [2], but it isn't tied to them at all. It only consists of two headers. I extracted the two headers together with samples and docs, and they are available as a zip archive [3]. I would be most excited if there was interest in adding this functionality to Boost.move, but in any case, all comments are much appreciated. [build] Headers rule does both too much and too little

Folks I don't think the headers rule is working very well at present - it seems to both do too much and too little depending on the context: Too much: If I build the type_traits tests so everything is up to date, and then touch say type_with_alignment.hpp, then in libs/type_traits/test do: bjam add_const_test And for some strange reason bjam thinks there's a dependency on type_with_alignment.hpp from add_const_test, and there really isn't. In fact *every* test seems to be out of date now. Too little: The headers under boost/config/ are included via macros so aren't placed in the dependency graph. I can fix this easily enough in the Boost.Config tests, but ideally this should be fixed at the top level by making everything under boost/config/ a dependency of boost/config.hpp. This is currently causing some Boost.Config tests to fail in the online matrix, I bet there are others as well. Anyone any ideas? Thanks, John.

[type_traits] Should namespace boost::align be namespace boost::detail::align?

I was working on a tiny library, Boost.Align, which would provide (among other things) a boost::align (that would be std::align if BOOST_NO_CXX11_STD_ALIGN is not defined, or a reasonably non-portable implementation otherwise) and found that type_with_alignment.hpp uses the identifier 'align' for a namespace within namespace 'boost'. Was this namespace intended to not be within boost::detail? If it can be, I'll send a pull request; if not, I'll choose a different identifier over 'align'. Glen

Now that we have a separate module the release scripts we should remove them from the super project. I'll do that if there are no objections. Do we want to keep it as a submodule, or just completely separate? A lot of the scripts seem to be subversion specific, so can they just be deleted?

Macros to determine the availability of C++11 functions in <memory> like std::align would be useful to me. (I know that declaration begs the inquiry "What conforming code would you write if std::align is not present?" but that is separate e-mail...) Would a BOOST_NO_CXX11_HDR_MEMORY be generally useful? However I didn't find any example nor really usable description of how to use it (I'd need to define boost::graph::internal_vertex_name, but I don't know what the typedef is supposed to be). When I build boost libraries from the top with the latest modular-boost master with MingW/gcc-4.8.1 on Window I get thi error in sync: In file included from libs\sync\src\tss_windows_pe.cpp:9:0: ./boost/sync/detail/config.hpp:32:42: fatal error: boost/detail/winapi/config.hp p: No such file or directory #include <boost/detail/winapi/config.hpp> ^ I do not see this file anywhere. What is the issue and can this be corrected ?
