Under fusion namespace we can write vector<int, double, string> v(1, 2.4, "hello"); print_type( at_c<2>(v) ); // prints string print_value( at_c<2>(v) ); // prints "hello" But number 2 in our example must be a compile time constant, we cannot write int idx = 2; at_c<idx>(v); // compile error here Sometime accessing an element in a fusion sequence indexed by a runtime variable could be useful, something like the following: vector<int, double, string> v(1, 2.4, "hello"); int idx; cout << "Give me an index" << endl; cin >> idx; apply_at(v, idx, print_type); // prints string if idx == 2, or int if idx == 0 apply_at(v, idx, print_value); // prints "hello" if idx == 2, or 1 if idx == 0 Because I didn't find something similar in fusion and I needed that for code I'm writing I cooked up my solution, it's very easy and if someone is interested I can post it. Marco P.S: If someone could point me to an already available solution it would be appreciated ;-) I just missed it.

Rounding, Truncating Values

Here are a few small utility functions that I use for rounding and truncating values. Its probably a good idea to add this functionality to boost. [shifted_ptr] Allocator added

Hola, I just finalized the design of shifted_ptr by adding a wrapper allocator called sh::pool. This can eventually be used as a second template argument over STL containers. Now shifted_ptr is bulletproof.... Once again I think there is some sort of stack overflow on GCC for Windows when Boost.Test macros are used so please us shifted_ptr_test2.cpp in that case. I am not sure also if Stephen Cleary has any intent extending Boost.Pool to handle arbitraty sized chunks, that would basically be the final step for having even faster allocations. I uploaded it on Vault and the Sandbox. Thank you, -Phil

Using the latest portable_binary_archive from the vault with boost 1.34.1 on Mac XCode 3 I'm getting a linker duplicate symbol error: ld: duplicate symbol boost::archive::basic_binary_oarchive<portable_binary_oarchive> ::save_override(boost::archive::class_id_optional_type const&, int) in .../Persistence.build/Debug/CxxTest.build/Objects-normal/ppc/AAA.o and .../Persistence.build/Debug/CxxTest.build/Objects-normal/ppc/BBB.o Any help in resolving this issue would be appreciated. BOOST documentation in PDF/PS format

Hello, I am looking for the BOOST library in either PDF/PS formats so that I can print the ones I need and read them offline (which I generally prefer). Reading though the boost documenting link, it appears quite a daunting task to setup boost doc build to generate PDF files (it has a bunch of dependencies). Select Implementation using Boost.Fusion

Okay, as an exercise I implemented the select function object in terms of Boost.Fusion's at_c<> sequence accessor function. The implementation is attached -- which works with standard containers that contain either standard pairs, or fusion sequences. This implementation relies on Boost.Fusion's adapted pair implementation to turn ordinary std::pair<>'s contained in a standard container (map, vector of pairs, etc) into fusion sequences. This implementation is much shorter than the earlier versions I've posted before. Should this be part of Boost.Fusion, or if there's interest should this little utility undergo a review for inclusion in Boost? backwards compatibility

Hello, I realize that Boost doesn't promise ABI compatibility across releases, nor even API compatibility according to the FAQ: How can the Boost libraries be used successfully for important projects? Many of the Boost libraries are actively maintained and improved, so **backward compatibility with prior version isn't always possible**. Deal with this by freezing the version of the Boost libraries used by your project. Only upgrade at points in your project's life cycle where a bit of change will not cause problems. Individual bug fixes can always be obtained from the boost repository. (emphasis mine) OK, but *in practice* is there a large amount of work adapting existing client code to a new release? I'm asking in order to gauge whether it is useful for a linux distribution (Debian) to keep multiple versions of Boost available simultaneously; e.g. 1.34.1 and 1.35. Currently Debian provides only the latest version of Boost. Thanks, -Steve

shared_ptr.hpp & Intel C++ error

I'm routinely testing Boost.Python compilation with Intel C++ under Fedora 3 (64-bit). Today I tried Fedora 5, 6, 9, and I'm getting the error below. It can be reproduced by simply including boost/shared_ptr.hpp. I tried adding -pthread but it didn't make a difference. Is this a known problem? Is there a trick to get around it? Thanks for the reply! Unfortunately, it doesn't help in my case, because I have a x86_64 platform. I blindly tried all includes I could find in the Intel C++ directory, but none helped. A look at the docs also didn't lead to any insights...
