Boost crashing before main() called.

I have a Win32 program compiled and linked with Visual C++ Express 9 that is crashing during the loading of DLLs, and it appears that it is the boost filesystem code specifically failing. This problem occurs under Windows XP but oddly not under Vista. Can someone tell me how I can compile Boost under Windows? I did not find any info in the documentation section. Thanks.

Patch for building Boost with GCC 4.4.0

GCC changed the way #elif's are handled (is now more std-compliant apparently) but this broke all the #elif BOOST_PP_ITERATION_DEPTH() == N lines. They need to be replaced with #elif defined(BOOST_PP_ITERATION_DEPTH) #if BOOST_PP_ITERATION_DEPTH == N ... #endif Attached is a patch that does so (against trunk). Cheers, Chris

Constructor with parameters -- Lambda

Thanks for the input on trying to use boost::lambda::bind instead of boost::bind, unfortunately there is no bind in the lambda namespace. I'm using Boost 1.35, and in my version "namespace lambda" only exists in boost\lambda\construct.hpp and only contains a single templated struct constructor, there is no bind available :( Any ideas? I'm trying all sort of funny syntax variations to no avail... Dear all, I often find myself in the need of the above assertion mechanism where the actual assertion should only checked if the first condition is true. Of course, we could write this as if( IF ) BOOST_ASSERT( THEN ); but this has the potential downside that the compiler cannot completely optimize away the function calls inside the if-statement. [GIL] trying to clean up a small block of adhoc code

The code is poorly written but instead of trying to clean it up myself I thought this would be a good opportunity to learn to use gil. I think to get started I first need to create a gil image view from the raw data. Is this right? I looked at the image view from raw data function in the doxygen documentation but I don't see any for 1 channel data image data. Am I missing something? Thanks, Michael Marcin

I'm implementing some simple map data-struture as a wrapper around boost::circular_buffer<boost::optional<Pod>>. In my copy-constructor I want to memcpy into a newly created circular_buffer of the correct size, but that is not really possible. In n2212 I outline a solution to this problem. Would you consider to implement them? I think the functions will also make circular_buffer more efficient for use in MPI and Asio. -Thorsten

[interprocess] shared memory map only working with built-in types?

Hello Ion, Title says it all really: the attached mini-program gives me a segmentation fault on ubuntu linux 8.04 with gcc 4.2.3 when trying to read back the shared memory between process invocations (trying a similar program on XP also fails). If the comments on lines 33/34 and 66-67/68-69 are swapped it works as expected. I've also tried and failed to get it working with my own types as well as std::string. Most of the interprocess tests work fine on my system* so I wonder if it's not possible to use UDTs with this sort of shared memory? I couldn't find anything in the docs (so far) that suggests what I'm doing is silly/wrong. Another minor problem I'm getting is that shm_unlink isn't found by default; adding <library>/boost/thread/ to the dependencies in my Jamfile gets around this, but I'm not sure what the 'correct' way of fixing this is (do you want more info about this one?). The need for a 1.35.1 release

As a user I am concerned about the lack of a 1.35.1 release. We cannot use 1.35 because it contains a bug. When 1.36 is released it will fix this bug, but it will also inevitably introduce new bugs some of which may also be show-stoppers for us. Which means we have to wait for 1.37, and so on... We need to have bugfix releases for released version of boost that do not change anything that is not absolutely necessary to fix bugs. Without this we are going to have to manually patch bugs as fixes come out, which makes a mockery of the whole idea of having boost releases (and makes boost much less appealing as a library). Hi Everyone, In the 1.35.0 release, I see that boost/archive/array/iarchive.hpp has a commented out 'load_optimized' function which is not commented out in the trunk. When deserializing to an std::vector<uint32_t, boost::pool_allocator<uint32_t> >, I see that the optimized implementation will first get the correct size, set the receiving container's size correctly, and then put the contents of the array into the container. The question I have is why is this function commented out in the 1.35.0 release? I had to find out the hard way that this causes insane memory usage when deserializing to an std::vector<uint32_t, boost::pool_allocator<uint32_t> >, mainly because if it uses an implementation that grows the vector one element at a time, can (and usually would) cause multiple calls to resize the container and make a lot of calls to the pool allocator. The way the pool allocator grows causes an abrupt usage in memory unnecessarily. Should this be considered a blocker issue that merits a 1.35.1 release? Insights would be most appreciated. My solution for the meantime is to stick to the Boost svn trunk version that I know the current application I'm working on works fine with -- eventually though I hope to be able to move to a "stable" Boost release. -- Dean Michael C. There has been some discussions about exposing a wait-callback in futures, a hook which is executed whenever someone calls wait. One of the motivations has been to efficiently re-use threads within a thread pool when a task is waiting on a future. The idea is to execute another task in the future::wait() call to avoid thread context switching and to need less worker threads. I've presented some arguments why this might cause unexpected problems. Here is a very crude draft of an alternative thread-pool interface which would allow thread re-use but in an explicit way. Let launch_in_pool come in two flavours, one without surprising thread re-use and one with explicit support for it. CORBA iimplementation for Boost interest?

I've been working on a C++ CORBA implementation for a long time. I've considered making it open source in the past, but I hadn't seen the exact niche for it to fill. Now that Boost 1.35 is out, including ASIO and the new Threads implementation, I'm considering retargeting my implementation to only use boost libraries for underlying services. I'd be quite happy to contribute my implementation to boost, if there's enough interest for me to proceed.
