AMDG boost/random/detail/signed_unsigned_tools.hpp has specializations of make_unsigned for long long. gcc rejects this when compiling with -ansi -pedantic. The attached patch replaces random::detail::make_unsigned with the TypeTraits version. Ok to commit? In Christ, Steven Watanabe

I'm in unfamiliar territory here, so there's probably more that can be done to help with compile-time efficiency and whatnot. It also still needs some more tests on the checked_ops and the ratio operators but I've run out of time for now (and I'm sure you have a proper test-suite somewhere ;-). IIUC, I *think* that only leaves dealing with the conditionals related to the optional convenience SI typedefs. Hope that helps, Darren

Hello, me and my compiler think that there is an error in this file: cxx: Error: ../boost/interprocess/allocators/detail/node_pool.hpp, line 334: expression must have (pointer-to-) function type (exprnotptrfun) { this->purge_blocks()(); } ------^ This should probably read 'this->purge_blocks();', without the extra pair of brackets. [release procedure] do ew manually have to merge changes from trunk to the release branch?

Hi, Maybe I missed something, but I thought trunk formed the basis of the release branch for each new release? If not, do I manually have to merge all my changes from trunk into the release branch? Thanks -Thorsten

[c++0x] cpp0x branch created, config macros added

A branch has been created for C++0x related work. See svn.boost.org/svn/boost/branches/cpp0x I've added 15 macros that describe C++0x features not supported, along the lines discussed in previous threads. Since these changes will force compiles for all libraries that use Boost.Config, I'd like to be sure they are stable on the branch before merging to trunk and eventually release. Please inspect the changes and give them a try. This branch is also intended to act as a common development location for the new C++0x clock/time_duration/time_point supporting infrastructure. Specifically common_type and ratio. Comments appreciated, --Beman

Hi, Upon trying to create the new shifted_allocator class that is to be passed as a template parameter on STL containers, I got stuck in a circle or errors. It turns out there was no way to replace internal pointers used by containers with smart pointers... which is very unfortunate. There are different solution I could take but hopefully I won't need them. By trying compiling shifted_ptr_test2.cpp in the Sandbox we'll get the following errors. [date-time][threads] Integrating C++0x clocks, time points, and durations into Boost?

A slightly updated version of http://www.open-std.org/jtc1/sc22/wg21/docs/papers/2008/n2615.html was accepted at the C++ committee meeting last week. It provides clocks, time points, and time durations for the C++0x standard library, and slightly modifies the threads interface already voted into C++0x to use these features. The only change in the version of the proposal actually voted in, IIRC, was to leave identity alone. The final document will appear in the post-meeting mailing in about two weeks. Although these clock and time features evolved from Boost Date-Time, the actual realization is quite different. So we've got a transition that has to be managed. I'd personally like to see that transition occur quickly, both because Boost.Threads depends on these features, and because I can now bring forward an improved Boost.Timer based on these features. One suggestion is for Boost to provide an implementation of the headers to be added to C++0x, and then to use those headers in the various Boost libraries that need them. But I haven't thought it out in any detail. How should we proceed? Comments? Ideas? Suggestions? --Beman

The current code is not really modular so I propose the following new/modified features: we have a defenition for "cipher" that is "some thing" that encrypts/decrypts message within a stream. One thing you can do to make Gil algorithms more generic and usable with boost::fusion or boost function is to wrap them like below into generic functors. Grouping your drawing algorithims like the following examples allow you to create really powerful generic drawing algorithms. See example below. You have to follow each step. I've used this technique to good effect and I"m thinking about writing an article about this. FYI, I just merged value_init from the trunk to the release branch: http://svn.boost.org/trac/boost/changeset/46464 It now has a little const object, boost::initialized_value, that has a generic conversion operator, so that one can initialize any CopyConstructible, DefaultConstructible type of object as follows: T obj = boost::initialized_value; boost::initialized_value provides a workaround to compilers that haven't yet fully implemented value-initialization. Workaround for a msvc 7.1 & 8.0 bug surfaced in the boost 1.35 release part II

Hi all, Boost 1.35 triggers msvc 7.1 & 8.0 to export a local type named CRITICAL_SECTION declared in detail/lwm_win32_cs.hpp into the global namespace. This causes 'ambiguous identifier' compiler errors upon attempts to use (the global Windows type) CRITICAL_SECTION. Please refer to; [boost.pool] Workaround for a msvc 7.1 & 8.0 bug surfaced in the boost 1.35 release 4/8/2008 3:52 PM and; Changeset link: http://svn.boost.org/trac/boost/changeset/44480 Above fixes problems caused by usage of CRITICAL_SECTION in Boost itself namely in pool/detail/mutex.hpp. However usage of CRITICAL_SECTION outside Boost still gives problems. For example; #include <boost/archive/text_iarchive.hpp> typedef int CRITICAL_SECTION; CRITICAL_SECTION cs; or (real live case); #include <boost/archive/text_iarchive.hpp> #include <atlcore.h> Results in 'ambiguous identifier' compiler errors. [format] Compiler error when using the Sun compiler.

Can someone please assist? This code below doesn't compile when I use the Sun compiler. My company is currently using boost 1.33.0, and I cannot do anything about that, but I want to use boost::format. What modification can I make to the format files to fix this issue? GIL - Fast Alpha Blends

There have been thread before about doing fast alpha blends with GIL views. [Units] A first step to ease the usage of Units' quantities inside of functors created with the Lambda library

Hello, I'm pleased to see so much activity in the development of Boost.Units recently. I try to apply it myself in some code to model physical systems. There it helps me a lot to ensure the correct use of the model parameters inside the model equations and to ensure the correct composition of components to a system model. Certain component behaviour, I would like to parametrize for each component instance by passing a functor describing, e.g., a signal waveform or a non-linear relation between to quantities. I therefore tried to combine Boost.Units with Boost.Lambda and Boost.Function. I noticed that currently Units and Lambda use two independent systems of trait classes to determine the return type of algebraic operations like +, -, *, /. This requires to litter the lambda expression with a lot of ret<return_type>(...) function calls to construct a functor containing boost::units::quantity<U, V> instances. However, the trait classes used by Units and Lambda are very similar, so I created as a first solution a header file <lambda.hpp> (see attachment), which extends Boost.Lambda's return type reduction system through partial specialization to use Boost.Units' trait classes in case boost::unit::quantity<U,V> are involved in operator[+|-|*|/]() calls. Maybe it's also useful for others and could even become part of Boost.Units after some further improvements. However, there are some open issues: - Can some of the partial specializations be dropped? - Is there a need to add other specializations (e.g, for boost::units::unit<Dim, System, Enable>)? - Is there a way to work around boost::lambda:bind's limitation concerning the binding of overloaded functions? The required static_cast to the function pointer (referring, e.g., a function from boost/units/cmath.hpp) is tedious. The attached small test program <units_with_lambda_test.cpp> demonstrates its usage and tedious bind issue, for which I haven't found a solution yet. Boost.Lambda requires calls to functions to be postponed using boost::lambda::bind(), so that they are executed not only once upon functor creation but at each functor call. Bind has the unfortunate limitation that it cannot resolve calls to overloaded functions. Thus, each time a call to an overloaded function (e.g., all functions defined in <boost/units/cmath.hpp>) is made, a lengthy static_cast<return_type (*)(argument_type)>(function_name) is needed for the first bind argument to help the compiler to find the overloaded function, which can accept the function arguments passed by the other bind arguments. Could this be somehow avoided or at least the syntax simplified? I'm thinking of, e.g., a templated function or (more ugly) a preprocessor macro adding the required static_cast based on some trait class or typeof. I'm looking forward to your feedback.
