The for loop in float_hash_impl in <boost/functional/detail/hash_float.hpp> generates a warning from gcc when instantiated with T = float. Changing the < to != quiets the warning. Looking for Time Series reviews

To date there have been no reviews of the time series library posted to the developer or user lists. Is this a bad time for a review, or is no one interested enough in this library to put in the time to submit one? If you feel the library isn't interesting or useful enough, please post a note to the list so I can see that opinion. If you are struggling for time to do the review, please post at least a short opinion, and if a few days extension will make a difference we can investigate that possibility. Inquiry of standardization status of boost::format

Due to the limitation of gettext usage with standard iostream, there's a proposal to improve the case in glibmm's string implementation [1], whose goals resemble boost::format very much. There's a thought that if boost::format is going to be standardized, then it's better to adopt the boost syntax and ease switching to standard in the future. So is this happening? How's the status? Hello, Our own regressions with parsers built on spirit fails with boost 1.34.0(haven't tried 1.34.1 yet). Before 1.34, the following worked. #include <boost/spirit/core.hpp> void main() { using namespace boost::spirit; const char *text = "1 "; assert(parse(text, int_p, space_p).full); } Now, it seems that the trailing space after the '1' in text is not consumed by the space_p, and parse does not return a full parse in parse_info. Hi, I hope this is the last question about result_of. I want to know the reason why result_of<F()>::type returns void by default instead of an incomplete type like template<typename F> struct error_this_is_not_a_nullary_function; which could make error message more readable. I found the one reason: The function composition. result_of<F(result_of<G()>::type)>::type is always well-formed unless result_of<A_NonNullary_Function()> is specialized for some reason. AMDG I still need to think a bit more before I vote but here are all the comments I have so far: In the Series Interface section in the user's guide shouldn't series-type( A0 const &, A2 const &, ... ); be prefaced by template<class A0, class A1, ...> ? "It may seem odd that even the unit series have a value parameter..." Wouldn't it be better to use a traits template to determine what "one" should be and require that this template be specialized? If there is no unambiguous unit value for a type then isn't it a little odd to use a unit series? Discretization | Equivalent To daily | mpl::int_<1> ... These are guaranteed not to be just typedefs I hope? You should state that the runtime discretization compatibility check is an assertion as opposed to throwing an exception. You also need to specify exactly what it means for discretizations to be the same--that the discretizations must be the same type (Otherwise I might be inclined to consider 1l and 1 equal) and that operator== must be defined ( Else I would likely try struct my_discretization {}; typedef sparse_series<double, my_discretization> series_type; ). Shouldn't ordered_inserter use the named parameters start, stop, and value? The promotion rules are complicated is there a metafunction that computes the result types or should I just use Boost.Typeof? [time_series] Review

I want to say at the outset that I work with a lot of people that do signal processing, and so that is the main use case my colleagues and I would have for using Boost.TimeSeries. That has definitely colored my view of Boost.TimeSeries, for what that's worth. * What is your evaluation of the design? Why is a series with only one nonzero element called a delta series? I would expect a delta series to be the elementwise differences between two series or some such. In fact, a little Googling revealed many references to delta series that were the differences of two series, but none like delta_series<>. Is this just my ignorance of the financial uses of time series? I'd like to see an overload of the coarse_grain() function allowing the specification of a DownSampler. I have a need for coarse resampling that preserves the largest value in the original set of finer samples, and I'm sure many others would like to use their favorite convolution-of-oversamples technique to move from high to low sample frequency. In fact, the ability to specify the method used when moving up or down in sample frequency should be a first-class feature of the coarse_grain() and fine_grain() functions. The default behavior is a gross simplification for many users' purposes. Please see my note elsewhere on the lack of UpSampler concept docs, making writing a custom one more difficult than it needs to be. The TimeSeries concept docs state that range_run_storage::pre_value( s ) returns "The value associated with the pre_run, if there is one." Does it return TimeSeries< S >::zero_type() otherwise? Is there any way for the user to tell the difference between a return value that happens to be equal to zero_type() and one that was never set? These same questions apply to post_value. I'm not really sure why dense_series<> does not allow floating point offsets. I understand that it is supposed to resemble std::vector. However, there is implicitly a relationship between the indices of the underlying vector and the times represented by the indices. It is possible (and quite convenient) for dense_series<> to hold a discretization_type that represents the start offset, and an interval, and perform the mapping for me. The lack of this mapping means that for dense time series of arbitrary discretization (say 0.5), I have to multiply all my times by 0.5 in user code when using the time series. I feel the library should take care of this for me; the fact that the underlying storage is vector-like should not force me to treat dense_series<> discretizations differently from all other series' discretizations. I find it a little confusing that discretization is both a template parameter and a ctor parameter. It would perhaps be a bit more clear if template-parameter Discretization were DiscretizationType or something. In general, I think that this library would be far more usable if there were more clarification of the relationships among discretization, offsets, and runs/intervals. What I'm getting at here is that the current structure makes it really unclear what DiscretizationType=double, discretization=2.1, offset=3.2 means for a run. Where is the run? At 3.2, or at 2.1 * 3.2? The fact that I have to think about this is probably simply a failure of documentation. Nonetheless, it would be best if it were possible to specify that a sample exists at offset X, where X is double, int, or units::seconds, without worrying about any other details, including discretization. That is, discretization seems useful to me only for regularly-spaced time series, and seems like noise for arbitrarily-spaced time series. In addition, a sample should be representable as a point like 3.14 or a run like [3.14, 4.2). * What is your evaluation of the implementation? I didn't look too closely at the implementation, due to lack of time, but I would like to know why the functors in boost::range_run_storage are const references to singletons in an anonymous namespace. What is that supposed to accomplish that other techniques do not? One of the great things about boost is learning new advanced techniques and discovering best practices for sticky coding situations. Without the why, this technique is lost on me, and probably others. Note that I'm not raising any issue with this implementation choice -- I'm just looking to understand why this was done. * What is your evaluation of the documentation? The docs could use a gentler intro. What I mean by this is that the docs appear to be somewhat inverted. Moving from foundations to things that build upon those foundations, and from the general to the specific would be better. For example, delta_series<> has the following description on the first page of the user manual: "A series which has exactly one run of unit length." I have no precise idea at this point what a run is, and moreover following the link gives a much more comprehensible definition in the reference section: "boost::time_series::delta_series -- A Mutable_TimeSeries that has a distinct value at some unique offset, and zero elsewhere". After reading the Range-Run Abstraction section, I think it would be appropriate to place that before mentions of runs, specific time series models, etc. It was only on the second pass that I fully understood the material presented up front in Series Containers. In general, the documentation is skewed towards financial use, but doesn't need to be -- the library is useful for other purposes as well. For instance, when the predefined resolution types are presented, it seems that these are somehow necessary, or that the lack of a "seconds" or "milliseconds" resolution typedef might be a concern. Further investigation indicates that in fact the Discretization can be virtually any numeric type (is that correct?). Placing these at the beginning of the documentation made several of my signal processing colleagues think this library would only be good for financial users. I suggest a more general emphasis, and a specific subsection that says something like "this was originally written for financial use, and here are some features that facilitate such use ...". For example, here is what I wrote on my first pass through the docs; I realize what the situation is now, but here is how the docs led me astray a bit: "Discretization is only done on days on up. What about seconds, minutes, hours, milliseconds (the one I need) discretization? Are series with different discretizations usable together without explicit user conversion? Also, if mpl::int_<360> is used as a conversion factor for yearly, it's wrong for many users' purposes. If it's an arbitrary number, how about using mpl::int_<0>, mpl::int_<1>, etc., and adding some other time increments?" In period_sums() description in the manual section, "summed" is misspelled "summer". I wanted to figure out whether I could supply my own sampler functor to fine_grain(), but it is unclear from the documentation what an UpSampler template parameter is supposed to look like. Looking at the fine_grain() reference is no help, due to lack of concept documentation. Following the samplers::sampler_base<> link was no help either, since it appears not to be documented other than listing its API. I finally found out what I need to do to write a sampler only by looking at the piecewise_upsample implementation. The coarse_grain() function says that it requires the coarser grain to be a multiple of the finer grain. I assume that should read "integer multiple"; is that right? After finding the above doc issues, I did a quick survey of the functions in the manual's Algorithms section. Most of them appear to have complete concept docs, but there are some deficiencies: Partial concept docs: integrate (missing Series requirements) Low-to-no concept docs: coarse_grain (missing all requirements except that the discretizations need to be integer multiples of one another, but doesn't use the word integer) fine_grain (missing all requirements except that the discretizations need to be integer multiples of one another, but doesn't use the word integer) invert_heaviside (no requirements at all) The rest of the algorithm detailed docs have concept requirements, but it would be much easier to use them if the concepts were links to the relevant concept docs; as it is now, I have to do some bit of searching to find each one listed. This applies generally to all references to concepts throughout the docs -- even in the concepts docs, I find names of concepts that I must then look up by going back to the TOC, since they are not links. The fact that "The only series type that does not support floating-point offsets is dense_series<>" should not just be mentioned in the manual, but also in the Discretization requirements in the dense_series<> reference docs. There appears not to be a rationale section. Even listing the usage cases alluded to in the Acknowledgements section may help illuminate the choices that were made. Specific things I'd like to see in a rationale: - Why was commit() chosen, instead of simpler self-contained insertions? - Why were ordered_inserters chosen instead of more STL-like insertion via iterators and member functions? - Why do ordered_inserters wipe out the previous contents of a time series, instead of appending/inserting? - Why can't elements and/or ranges of elements be removed from or added to an existing time series? - Why is the TimeSeries concept interface split between boost::sequence namespace and boost::range_run_storage namespace accessors? * What is your evaluation of the potential usefulness of the library? I think it is potentially quite useful. However, I think its usefulness is not primarily as a financial time series library, but as I mentioned earlier, its current docs make it sound as if it is mainly only useful for that. In addition, I am forced to ask how a time series library is more useful for signal processing than a std::vector and an extrinsic discretization value. The answer I came up with is that Boost.TimeSeries is really only advantageous when you have arbitrary spacing between elements, or when you want to use two representations of time series in an algorithm. That is, using Boost.TimeSeries' two-series for_each() is almost certainly better than a custom -- and probably complicated -- loop everywhere I need to operate on two time series. However, these cases are relatively rare in signal processing; it is much more common to simply loop over all the samples and do some operation on each element. This can be accomplished just as well with std::for_each or std::transform. The question then becomes, "Does using Boost.TimeSeries introduce clarifying abstractions, or conceptual noise?". The concensus among my colleagues is that the latter is the case. Some specific signal-processing usability concerns: - For many signal processing tasks, the time series used is too large to fit in memory. The solution is usually to use a circular buffer or similar structure to keep around just the part you need at the moment. The Boost.TimeSeries series types seem unable to accommodate this mode of operation. - Two of the most potentially useful bits of Boost.TimeSeries for certain kinds of signal processing are the coarse_grain() and fine_grain(). These do not allow in the case of coarse grain, and make difficult in the case of fine grain, the use of an arbitrary functor to do downsampling/upsampling. - It might be instructive to both the Boost.TimeSeries developers and some of its potential users if certain common signal-processing algorithms were implemented with the library, even if just in the documentation. For example, how might one implement a sliding-window normalizer over densely populated, millisecond resolution data? What if this normalization used more than two time series to do it's work? It may well be possible with the current framework, but a) it's not really clear how to do it based on the documentation and b) the documenation almost seems to have a bias against that kind of processing. If problems like that were looked at by the developers, it may well inform their design by helping them finding new generalizations and so forth. Likewise, if methods for using Boost.TimeSeries to do this kind of work were present in the documentation, the library would have immediate appeal to a whole new range of folks in the scientific computing field. * Did you try to use the library? With what compiler? Did you have any problems? No. * How much effort did you put into your evaluation? A glance? A quick reading? In-depth study? In-depth reading of the docs, API, and some of the implementation. I ran out of time to evaluate much code before the review ended. * Are you knowledgeable about the problem domain? Somewhat. I work at a place that does a lot of signal processing using time series, and though I work with these time series from time to time, it's not my core area. * Do you think the library should be accepted as a Boost library? As it stands, no. If there were clearly-defined relationships between samples and their extents and offsets; better support for large and/or piecewise-mutable time series; a rolling-window algorithm; and better customizability of coarse_grain() and fine_grain(), I would probably change my vote. Hi, I've moved this to the dev list, because it should probably be mentioned in the documentation somewhere. I'm not sure whether it belongs in Typeof or ScopeExit. I've tried building the hello.cpp example that comes with ScopeExit with the same results (as in my original message). I think I have narrowed down the cause. Building fails whenever "Program Database for Edit & Continue (/ZI)" is set in the project properties. Changing this to "Program Database (/Zi)" or any other fixes the problem. Is this a compiler bug? I never use Edit & Continue anyway, but I thought it might be helpful to others to mention this problem somewhere. Hi, I've finally been able to produce alpha release of completely reworked BoostBook based documentation for Boost.Test library. It's still not ready for release and I expect significant changes in both L&F (once I apply latest IBD based style) and content (some articles still missing). But it's in a shape close to what I would like it to be. I would really appreciate any comments to both content (language including) and style. I realize it might not be small undertaking so if you have time for just part of it, please post comments as well. There are several instances so far where you use an acronym without specifying what it is. AMDG I ran the attached program on the Subversion trunk. output attached. There are quite a few headers that suppress warnings but fail to restore them. General design question here. This came up on the user's list, and it made me question something I believed to be true. When writing a proxy for, e.g., a std container, I see two options for handling const. 0) Const-ness depends on the const-ness of the object being proxied: struct vector_proxy { std::vector<int> & vec; typedef std::vector<int>::iterator iterator; typedef std::vector<int>::iterator const_iterator; iterator begin() const { return vec.begin(); } ... }; 1) Const-ness depends on the proxy object itself: struct vector_proxy { std::vector<int> & vec; typedef std::vector<int>::iterator iterator; typedef std::vector<int>::const_iterator const_iterator; iterator begin() { return vec.begin(); } const_iterator begin() const { return vec.begin(); } ... }; I think a loooong time ago, I preferred (1) but these days (0) is more natural for me, but I can't say why, exactly. Just feels like that's how it should be. Thoughts? [GSoC] Boost.Reflection

Hi List! As you may know, I'm working in GSoC on a project called Boost.Extension/Reflection. The Extensions part of the project is finished (just a few details are missing, its original author is working on that), and I've started to work in Boost.Reflection a month ago. This is a library that brings "Reflection" features to C++. The features that are completed now is that you can reflect a class, setting a name for it and you can add different methods, each one identified with an ID of some type (could be different for each method). Also you should define parameter names and types. Finally, you could use the reflection to call any method (identified with that ID). This mail is just to let you know that, besides it isn't complete, we have committed to the sandbox a working version. It has minimum documentation and some examples. Koenig lookup swap.

Would anyone be interested in me adding an koenig lookup swap function to boost? (I would say it belongs in boost.utility). It would be a swap function that uses Koenig lookup to find the 'best' swap funciton, falling back on std::swap like this: template <class T> void koenig_swap(T& left, T& right) { using std::swap; swap(left,right); } Several boost libraries (multi array, compressed pair, graph, optional, spirit) already use this technique, each time explicitly with 'using std::swap' instead of abstracting it out.

questions regarding SVN setup

I'm interested in a) getting developer access to the SVN system - if I don't already have it. b) I don't know if the SVN system has a web browser interface like the CVS system did. If it does it would be nice to have it enabled. Personally, since i have tortoise svn on my machine, its not a big deal if I don't have it. But I think its very useful for those who arn't hooked up to SVN system to be able to observe history and when investigating features. c) It seems to me that information regarding SVN access and boost customs and practices for using it to best advantage should be available form the main boost web page. Oh now I found it - its via a link titled Sandbox SVN. So I guess what I'm ask is for the main page to be tweaked so it's location is more obvious. d) The same goes for Trac. There is a link referring to it as a list of bug fixes. But it seems that its also intended to be used for reporting bugs. I don't think that's at all clear from the main page. e) Poking around with the browser shows me a branch for RC_1_34_0. It seems we're releasing 1.34.1 - where is the branch for the actual code released? or are they the same? or? f) Poking around a little more, I see: root/branches/SPIRIT_1_6/boost/boost ... // all the boost headers which is what I expect to see. I presume that all these headers are the state at the time the branch was made plus any merged in updates. OK then I look at: root/branches/SPIRIT_1_6/boost/libs ...// only find the directory for spirit which kind of surprises me. I expect to see the whole set of libraries even though I know they havn't changed on this branch. I'm sure all the boost libraries haven't changed on this branch yet they are all there. What am I missing here? On the web page http://svn.boost.org/trac/boost/wiki/BoostSubversion under Developer Access one finds: " Boost contributors are given read/write access to the Boost Subversion repository when their Boost tasks warrant. [gsoc] the signal network library is now the dataflow library

The summer of code signal network project has taken a turn for the generic, and is now called the Dataflow library (you can think of dataflow programming as "programming by specifying the flow of data through data processing components"). Basically, after originally focusing on using Boost.Signals as the data transport mechanism, I started exploring another data transport mechanism (using simple pointers, and processing the data using Phoenix expressions), which helped me extract some generic dataflow concepts. I have posted the documentation at: http://dancinghacker.com/code/dataflow/ A few notes about the docs, so you know what you're looking at: * The Dataflow.Signals docs are still in transition - if something is confusing, your best bet is to look at the examples. If the examples are confusing... let me know :-) * the doxygen generated reference is broken * I'm still thinking of how to best express the concepts. Even though the documentation (and the code) are still in a "slight" state of flux, at this point I would rather put something out there to get feedback than wait to get everything ironed out. By reading the docs you should get a good idea of where the project has gone, and any comments you might have are very very very welcome. If you want to look at the code, it is in the sandbox (SOC/2007/signals), the tests and examples have been tested with GCC 4.0.1/darwin and MSVC (test_disconnect is known to fail). The summary of the project contributions thus far: 1) A minimal generic dataflow layer which is data-transport mechanism independent, which gives a glimpse of what a generic dataflow library can offer. This layer currently supports component connection, invocation, and grouping. 2) A relatively complete implementation supporting Boost.Signals as the data transport mechanism. This has a number of generally useful signal-based components for dataflow networks, and provides easy connectability. 3) An experimental implementation using mostly pointers as the data transport mechanism + support for Phoenix expressions to process the data. There are some interesting things brewing here - one of the more interesting (to me) is the notion of "inferred" connections (connections that are not stored in memory but inferred from the component). There are some examples of a fibonacci sequence generator that use this (see the docs under Dataflow.Phoenix), and in the future I would also like to experiment with encoding dataflow networks in Proto expression trees. For the GSoC phase I plan to iron out items 1 and 2. Your feedback would be most helpful in deciding what to focus on - what do you find useful? what do you find confusing, awkward, or incorrect? that, and any comments on the implementation are most welcome. BUG IN boost::ptr_set erase

However, I've been wondering whether it would be possible to make the "hook interface" easier to use and less demanding in terms of names that are injected into client code. Shared Map

Greetings, I've recently implemented a new collection type for a project of mine. It works identically to std::map, with the same algorithmic guarantees, but additionally can be 'copied' in constant time. That is: shared_map<int, int> a; for(i = 0; i < 100; i++) a[i] = i*i; // Each insert in log(n) of the map size shared_map<int, int> b = a; // This is constant time (not linear as in a std::map) b[1] = 7; // Still log(n) of course b[2] = 3; assert(a[2] == 4 && b[2] == 3 && a[6] == 36 && b[6] == 36); The trick is simple: the map is a red-black tree, but we get rid of the explicit parent pointer for each red-black node. This complicates the code, but is algorithmically uninteresting since we always descend from the root anyway and just need to track the parent as we go, either in an explicit stack or through recursion (my current implementation). The key point however is that the lack of an explicit parent allows us to use reference counting, and share children. Thus the copy from a to b simply copies the root node, and adds an additional reference count. All future changes do copy on write for shared nodes (any with a ref count of 2 or more). The does lower the overall performance for all operations somewhat, but for cases like mine where there is a need to copy large maps a lot, and each map remains quite similar to the other maps, there is a huge savings in computation and memory usage. Another nice use is: copy a map (since it's free) and iterate over it while modifying the original with no worries. One caveat, obviously multiple threads require a single global lock since even apparently different collections share internal state (or I could add a per node lock, which has the nice effect of general fine grained tree locking, but is tons of overhead, perhaps a compile time choice?). My current implementation is sufficient for my purposes, but with a little cleanup (making stronger iterator validity guarantees, better support for erasing ranges, explicit parent stack instead of recursion perhaps), it could be perhaps useful to everyone. Also, it's a little work but straightforward to generalize to shared_set, shared_multimap, etc. I was wondering if there would be any interest from people in such a library? If so, I would be willing to do the needed cleanup, if not, it suits me reasonably well as is (I don't even use erase). Also curious if anyone has seen such a thing anywhere before. It seems obvious enough to me, but perhaps it's actually new, I couldn't find anything like it when I went searching. Thanks for your time -Jeremy

Hi, I was browsing the CVS repo through the web UI. I find 2 files directly under the main CVS folder (http://boost.cvs.sourceforge.net/boost/) index.html and creation_tags.hpp which are boost::interprocess. IMHO, it must be some residual files having accidently gotten into the CVS due to a bulk checkin. A request: For some of us behind the firewall, can a nightly archive of HEAD be made available? [Iterator] Adaptors for accessing keys/values in associative containers

Would anyone be interested in having a couple of extra specialized iterator adaptors in Boost.Iterator? I'm thinking of 'key_iterator' and 'value_iterator' adaptors (along with convenience 'make_key_iterator' and 'make_value_iterator' functions) that allow any associative container (that follows standard library idioms) to be accessed as either a range of keys or as a range of values. They'd be used like this: std::map<std::string,int> m; std::for_each(make_value_iterator(m.begin()),make_value_iterator(m.end()),func); Where func() takes an int parameter rather than a std::pair<const std::string,int>. Using these adaptors is considerably easier than using boost.lambda for this purpose and they can be implemented to incur no (or negligable) runtime overhead when compared to iterating normally through an associative container. I find these useful - does anyone else?

Compilation with Visual Studio 7.1 fails

While trying to compile a snapshot of the SVN repository with VS 7.1 ( on a Windows XP box ) i got server "buffer overrun" errors that resulted in about 20 targets not being compiled. Hello, I would like to use a optional<T>, where T is not copy constructible, with a default constructor (in my case, a xmlpp::Document). I read in the doc that one way to do that is to use in_place_factories. Hallo, I just noticed that svn/boost/trunk doesn't contain a top boost directory, while the few tags and branches I checked do, e.g. tags/SPIRIT_1_6_4, tags/Version_1_34_1 and branches/RC_1_34_0. Hello, "EB" Automotive is currently using boost::GIL, MPL and String Algorithms for a in house tool. Additionally we use Stefan Seefelds Boost.XML from sandbox, with a few small extensions. [singleton/function_types] How to get and try out?

Hi boosters and Tobias, I'm in search of a singleton working with multi-threading. I've tried Loki's SingletonHolder, but that one doesn't seem to work with code executed before start of main(), at least not with the ClassLevelLockable ThreadingModel, but it might as well be my bad as it's not really very well documented (I don't have an MC++D handy). Anyhow; I stumbled upon the singleton in boost vault/X-Files which felt promising after reading the docs. But it seems to also require some Boost.FunctionTypes library which seems to be kind-of-almost accepted into boost (See http://lists.boost.org/boost-announce/2005/06/0066.php) So now to my questions: * Is this singleton in vault/X-Files working and worth a try? Or is it more of a scetch or something? * If yes, how can i get a copy of its prerequisite function_types? And are there more prerequisites not in the 1.34.1 release? * Can I use the 1.34.1 boost release and patch in the needed files? * Is the singleton scheduled for a review? There really ought to be a singleton in boost! * Last resort - if this singleton isn't really usable as is, does anyone know of one that is and fits my requirements above? [svg_plot] Progress of SVG_Plot

All, I have uploaded the newest version of SVG_Plot to the Boost Vault, and am looking for feedback. This library allows you to make 1 and 2 dimensional plots from STL containers, hopefully with minimal hassle :), and outputs the images as SVG files. The package contains 9 example files in project-root/libs/svg_plot/example that give a reasonable demonstration of what the library is capable of currently. The only extra issue is that because of some last minute trouble, I currently can't make 2D plots from 1D STL containers (vector, etc), but that will hopefully be fixed within the week. My apologies for the delay in this posting, but the review period for the Time Series library submitted by Eric Neibler runs from Monday, July 30 until Wednesday, August 8. From the documentation: The purpose of the Boost.Time_series library is to provide data structures, numerical operators and algorithms to operate on time series. A time series is a series of data points, sampled at regular intervals. The library provides numerous time series containers, each with different time/space trade-offs, and a hierarchy of concepts which allow the time series to be manipulated generically. The library also provides operators and algorithms which use the generic interfaces to perform calculations on time series and accumulate various statistics about them. Boost.Time_series does not yet contain all the algorithms one might want in order to perform full time series analysis. However, the key contribution of Boost.Time_series is the framework and the rich hierarchy of concepts with which such algorithms can be written to efficiently and generically process series of data with widely divergent in-memory representations and performance characteristics. Boost.Time_series provides several such series containers, as well as mechanisms for defining additional series types and algorithms that fit within the framework. Some examples of series types that are provided are: dense, sparse, piecewise constant, heaviside and others, as well as adaptors for providing shifted, scaled and clipped series views. Please notice that the Time Series library uses some features of boost that will be part off the 1.35 release, but are not I the 1.34.1 release. For testing, you will need to either test against CVS Head (Which will not be available for much of Tuesday.) or use backports provided in the time series download files to update your 1.34.x installation. [Subversion] Subversion repository is now enforcing mime-types and eol-styles

Subversion handles end-of-line translation a bit differently from CVS. In Subversion, individual files need to be marked with both a mime-type and, for text files, an eol-style. These attributes determine how the Subversion client does end-of-line translation when communicating with the server. To maintain these properties requires some initial configuration of your Subversion client, described here under the "MIME types..." section: http://svn.boost.org/trac/boost/wiki/BoostSubversion The Subversion repository will verify that you have set the mime-type and eol-style properly when you try to commit, and will reject any commits that contain files without an appropriate MIME type. The configuration information above will automate the process of adding mime-types and eol-styles to new files, so the handling of end-of-line translation should be transparent in most cases. Hi All, I am happy to announce Amsterdam based CodeShop has been using Boost since 2005 on all of it's projects (and CodeShop memebers have been using Boost since 2001). We used it on the following: *OpenZoep *An open source voip stack (xmpp-sip/rtp/(port)audio/codecs), capable of pc2pc calls and pc2pstn calls - it's a message based sdk, so you could write your own Gtalk or Skype ...* * Boost is used everywhere: from the xmpp implementation (boost::function, boost::asio) to the codecs-wrapper (boost::scoped_array) - and more. Boost made the code a lot easier, more fun, safer and faster to develop.
