You see here I look at the median time for boost function and direct-inline and see only a 7 ns difference which is probably smaller than I can truly measure I suspect... At the top of looper.hpp there is #define MAX_FN_LOOP 1e5 which controls the iterations in the timing loop. If my hacked up untidy code is buggy or if you have some insight I would love to hear about it. Boost Filesystem Build On GCC

When Boost Filesystem is built with bjam "-sTOOLS=gcc" or bjam "-sTOOLS=mingw" on MinGW, the resulting static library is a .lib consisting of .obj files. However, it is traditional for gcc to use .a files which consist of .o files. I fix this by hand by renaming the .obj files to .o and then executing ar rvs libboost_filesystem.a *.o , but it would be nice if bjam would get it correctly by itself. Stephan T. Does anybody remember (or, is anybody actively) using the indirect_pmap functor class template defined at <boost/pending/indirect_cmp.hpp>? A Google search within the Boost site turned up empty. Sifting through most of the graph source code (haven't yet looked at the detail subfolder) was also fruitless. Nevertheless, my documentation quest continues... future of boost.threads

i was actually waiting for the rush of the new release to go away to ask this question: i have seen some recent discussions regarding the threads library and from what i gathered there are plans to start working on it again. but, it also seems the original owner of the lib has disappeared from the list here at the petroleum eng. dept. of stanford university, we use boost rather heavily and lately we started into looking parallelization issues. we, of course, would like to use a cross-platform library such as boost.threads but are a bit worried about the future of it so, i guess, the questions are: is there gonna be a new release of boost.threads? if so, are there any plans to change the interface to a degree that it will require significant changes in the user code? with that said, let me also state that, i will be more than glad to give full test support for the library if any changes are being considered burch - - - G. Building boost::filesystem without bjam

I just upgraded to boost 1.31. I use filesystem with MSVC 6.0, but I don't use the jamfiles to create my .dsp and .dsw files. I just created simple projects myself. It worked previously, but now when I try to include the filesystem.dll file, I get the error LINK : fatal error LNK1104: cannot open file "libboost_filesystem-vc6-mt-gd-1_31.lib" Do you have any suggestions?

For the new random number generators, if I want to share a single underlying uniform random generator, I need to do like so: typedef boost::mt19937 rng_t; rng_t rng; boost::variate_generator<rng_t&, boost::normal_distribution<> > tn (rng, boost::normal_distribution<> (0, sqrt (var))); boost::variate_generator<rng_t&, boost::pnseq_generator<1> > pn (rng, boost::pnseq_generator<1>()); That is, I need to say "rng_t&" for the 1st template param rather than "rng_t". Is this correct? The old rng lib passed the engine by ref in the constructor, but the new one doesn't. Correct?
