Boost license / OSI approved
Hi there, I noticed that the Boost license is not listed as an OSI approved license (see here: http://www.opensource.org/licenses/alphabetical ). Why is this ? The license seems to nicely comply with the Open Source definition, from what I can see (see http://www.opensource.org/docs/osd). http://www.fsf.org/licensing/licenses/ lists it as GPL-compatible. WOW .... just WOW. It is unfortunate to see an organization that is supposed to look out for the collective good resort to what can only be described as a power trip. For the record, I am not a lawyer, but the Boost license is as free as free can be. There are so many OSI-approved licenses that I am not able to use, yet I have never had any trouble getting the BSL approved by my employers. My standard for good C++ software requires that Boost is used. Unless I am desperate, I will reject C++ projects from any usage consideration unless they make use of the highly-regarded Boost libraries. If OSI cannot accept BSL, then that indicates that there are serious problems with OSI. Perhaps it is time for a new "trademark" ... is BOSI (Boost Open Source Initiative) already taken? The motto could read "BOSI is Better than OSI" :-) Justin
