I have a problem with installing boost. I downloaded the installer 1.40 for VC 2008 and followed all the instructions in the manual but I'm getting the error 1>LINK : fatal error LNK1104: cannot open file 'libboost_thread-vc90-mt-gd-1_40.lib'. This is from the header #include

Hi,
Did you setup a path to that file? Also does the file exist?

The file does exist. I'm using the default install path which is C:\Program Files\boost\boost_1_40\. I followed the instructions which were to set the VS project to look for additional headers in this path as well as using not using precompiled headers. As to setting the path I didn't get any instructions on this unless your referring to the additional file paths the compiler should search in. Thanks,Rick

Hi Rick,
Did you look up the reasons for LNK1104 on MSDN?

I just did and I've added the following path to the Tools->Options->VC++ Directiories : C:\Program Files\boost\boost_1_40It still doesn't want to work. Rick

There is no "stage" folder in my boost_1_40. I do have boost_1_40\lib and boost_1_40\libs. I included those in the file path and it still does not work. I do have stage.jam and stage.py files in my boost_1_40 although I don't think that is related... Rick

You need to have ...\boost_1_40\stage\lib in the library path.

Ah right. you get stage when you build from source.
I do have boost_1_40\lib and boost_1_40\libs.
Is there are file called libboost_thread-vc90-mt-gd-1_40.lib in boost_1_40\lib?
I included those in the file path and it still does not work.
By file path, you mean under "Library files" right? In Christ, Steven Watanabe

Yes it is there. By path I mean I went to Tools->Options->Projects and Solutions->VC++ Directories and added those directories. I also right clicked on the name of the project in the solution panel and added the paths to the "Additional Include Directories". If neither of those are "Library files" then I have not. Thanks a lot,Rick

There should be a drop down menu there for which one of the options is library files.

Okay, its working now. Thank you so much I really appreciate it :) Thank you!Rick.
