It gets really hard (for me, at least) to distinguish what you wrote from what the other person wrote. I know this seems nitpicky, but I ask that anyone who can tolerate it leave a blank line around replies, as follows:
quote somebody saying something about something they said
Your reply to the original poster's thesis, or even: Would you tolerate this style? I like when things which belong together are together...
quote somebody saying something about something they said I hope this kind of formatting is clear as well. If not I will do my best and write as proposed by Dave.

It doesn't help my problem -- that I can't see where the quotation ends and the reply starts -- much at all. -- Dave Abrahams Boost Consulting http://www.boost-consulting.com The Astoria Seminar ==> http://www.astoriaseminar.com

Wouldn't a user agent filter be able to insert the blank lines for you?

Surely its easier for people just to put in the extra line break or two than to require receivers of boost mail to add filters to add them? And it would put new arrivals on the list at a disadvantage. I with Dave Abrahams on this one - I sometimes have great difficulty in determining where replies start and end and it doesn't take much effort from the replier to make it so much clearer. By all means put the replies in line with the OP - just put a gap in so you can distinguish the reply from the OP. James

Yes, if I had time to / knew how to hack one together for Gnus I'd love to have one. That said, it wouldn't help everybody else. -- Dave Abrahams Boost Consulting http://www.boost-consulting.com The Astoria Seminar ==> http://www.astoriaseminar.com
