Wouldn't "My Computer" on windows machines be analgous to the /Volumes on OS X? Therefor all drives are rooted at "My Computer"?
Not really, because you can't cd "My Computer". I do like the idea of a way to list current mountpoints. That's probably much more useful and feasible than my idea of listing root names.
